While buying a brand new tractor would be nice, your situation may call for a less expensive, used small farm tractor. Unlike used cars, tractors can provide several decades of good service, possibly even longer. So buying a 25-year-old car may not be a great idea, but buying a 25-year old tractor for your farm could be a sweet deal. Older tractors tend to be more affordable while still having plenty of years of service left in them. So how should you go about buying a used tractor?

Starting Your Search

These days, you don't have to jump in your truck and start driving to farms to find used tractors for sale. Searching online for used farm tractors is a better way to start. Look for options that fit both your budget and needs. For instance, a compact utility tractor is ideal for landscaping and nursery jobs, while slightly bigger tractors are great for handling livestock work, digging ditches and baling hay. Make a list of tractors that catch your attention, and ask your network of family, friends and acquaintances for recommendations.

Once you narrow your choices, try to gather as much information as possible about the seller and the tractor. Look for reviews about that model and eliminate tractors with bad reputations from your list. Sellers may include private owners, dealerships and auction houses, and purchasing from each type of seller has its own pros and cons.

You can probably get the best price from a private seller, but your purchase won't come with a warranty. Dealerships have a large inventory, and units may come with warranties, but the tractors typically cost more. Auction houses sometimes have a large inventory and bargain prices, but the tractors are probably sold as-is with no warranties. Carefully consider your options and proceed with the best offer for your circumstances.

Time Your Search

If possible, plan your purchase for a time when tractor prices are at more affordable. Tractor brands and dealerships usually conduct sales and trade-in activities from March to June. End of season sales are also a good time to search for good deals.

Inspect the Tractor Thoroughly

Take in the overall appearance of the tractor from the body to the engine, the wiring to the articulation points, all the way down to the tires. If a tractor looks well maintained, it probably is. Dents, peeling paint, cracks and bulging on tires are red flags, as these are signs the tractor was kept outside at the mercy of the elements. Take a closer look at the paint to see if it was recently applied to hide wear or rust.

Lift up the hood to check the engine. Look for leaks in the hoses or hydraulics as well as gas, oil and water leaks that can signal engine issues. Take the tractor for a spin to see how it steers and handles as well as how the brakes and hydraulics perform. If you're satisfied with your inspection of the tractor, then you're ready to proceed with the purchase.

Closing the Deal

Before completing your purchase, try to get the best deal possible, whether you're negotiating with a private seller or a dealership. It wouldn't hurt to ask for guarantees or financing if you need it. Don't forget to ask if transport is available from the farm or dealership to your location. After you agree to the terms of the sale, pay up and enjoy your new (used) tractor.

Happy New Year! Unfortunately, weather never takes a holiday and tornadoes can occur at any time of the year. On January 1st 1999, an EF-2 tornado produced damage in Trinity County and another EF-2 tornado produced damage in Liberty county.

January 2
Huntsville received 6.40 inches of rain on this date back in 1890. The monthly total was 10.50 inches.

January 3
An arctic outbreak gripped Southeast Texas in 1911 with low temperatures plummeting to 16 degrees at Houston and 14 degrees at Brenham.

January 4
The cold outbreak of 1911 continued with Danevang recording a low temperature of 14 degrees and Galveston recording a temperature of 19 degrees.

A tornado ripped through Bay City on this day in 1929. Five persons were killed and 20 others were injured.

January 5
In 1947, a band of rain and snow showers moved through Southeast Texas.  This was the last day of seven consecutive days below freezing.

January 6
A heavy rain event affected Southeast Texas on this date in 1998. Flooding was reported across Montgomery, Harris and Liberty counties. The city of Liberty reported 7.02 inches of rain.

January 7
In 1913, an arctic cold front crossed the region. Houston recorded a high temperature of 33 degrees and College Station and Crockett recorded a high temperature of 27 degrees. The front brought almost an inch of rain to Houston. The rain was mixed with freezing rain and sleet.

January 8
The city of Houston recorded 5.89 inches of rain on this date back in 1891. The monthly total was 13.11 inches.

January 9
The start of a mini-cold wave began on this date in 1962. A thin layer of ice formed on Galveston Bay out 100 yards from shore as temperatures around the Galveston Bay region fell into the teens.

Heavy rain moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2012 and produced flooding across parts of Fort Bend and southern Harris counties. Richmond reported 8.58 inches of rain during this event.

Areas from madisonville to Crockett to Livingston all reported between 3 and 6 inches of snow during this winter weather event.  Morning low temperatures at Somerville fell to 12 degrees.

A snow event moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1918. Ratcliffe recorded 4.0 inches of snow and College Station recorded 3.2 inches of snow. Snow made it all the way to the coast with Alvin reporting 2.5 inches of snow, Angleton reporting 0.8 inches and Galveston measured a half inch of snow.

The city of Galveston reported 6.0 inches of snow on this date in 1886. The morning low temperature fell to 11 degrees.

Today was the first of ten consecutive sub-freezing mornings endured in Houston back in 1978.

A significant ice storm affected areas northwest of a Columbus to Huntsville to Crockett line on the 13th and 14th of 1944.

A significant ice storm produced heavy glazing of trees and power lines and also produced very icy roadways came to an end on this day in 1997. There were over 1100 accidents and three fatalities during the ice storm. Damages topped $1 million dollars.

January 15
An ice storm moved across mainly the northern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 2007. Somerville recorded a high temperature of 32 degrees with a low of 28 and precipitation totaling 0.66 inches, much of the rain froze on contact.

January 16
Frigid temperatures filtered into Southeast Texas on this date in 1888. The temperature dropped to 23 degrees in Galveston. The high temperature at Galveston only warmed to 32 degrees with a few snow flurries reported.

January 17
A light to moderate snow event moved across the northern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 1930. College Station and Crockett recorded 2.0 inches of snow.

In 2006, strong thunderstorm winds collapsed the side of an oil storage tank in Deer Park. Scaffolding in the tank toppled and two men fell from the scaffolding. One man perished and the other was injured as a result of this accident.

In 2007, a vehicle was driven into a low water crossing near Industry (Austin County) and was swept 100 yards downstream. The vehicle contained three people, one escaped safely and the others perished due to drowning.

January 18
Bitter arctic air plunged into Southeast Texas on this date in 1930. Brenham recorded a record low temperature of -2 degrees and Houston dropped to 5 degrees.

A cold wave began on this date in 1940. The low temperature in Houston fell to 21 degrees.

January 19
A swath of 6 to 7 inches of rain produced minor flooding across parts of Harris and Montgomery counties on this date back in 1979. Conroe reported 4.61 inches of rain.

A band of light snow moved across the northern third of Southeast Texas on this date in 1936. Grapeland reported 2 inches of snow and Huntsville reported an inch of snow.

January 20
A stationary coastal trough of low pressure produced periods of heavy rain on the 20th, 21st and 22nd of 1980. Rainfall totals over the three day period ranged from 7 to 10 inches across parts of Harris, Fort Bend, Wharton and Brazoria counties.

January 21
A strong arctic cold front raced across Southeast Texas on this date in 1954. In Brenham, the high temperature on the 21st was 82 degrees and the high on the 22nd was 31 degrees. The overnight low was 19 degrees. College Station received 0.5 inches of snow behind the cold front.

In 2008, strong thunderstorm winds collapsed a 28 foot tall wall under construction in Webster.

In 1999, a severe thunderstorm produced golf ball to softball ball sized hail on the campus of Texas A&M University. Damage was estimated near $10 million dollars.

Light to moderate snow moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1940. Brenham recorded 4.0 inches of snow, Danevang and Houston measured 3.0 inches of snow and College Station recorded an inch of snow.

January 23
Houston Hobby Airport recorded its coldest all-time temperature when the mercury dropped to 5 degrees back in 1940.

January 24
An upper level disturbance brought mixed precipitation to Southeast Texas in 2014. A swath of 2 to 4 inches of snow fell from Madisonville to Huntsville to Coldspring. Onalaska reported 4 inches of snow and Livingston reported 3 inches of snow. Further south, Houston received about 0.10 inches of ice. Roads were treacherous across all of Southeast Texas.

In 1926, a band of snow moved across Southeast Texas. Snowfall totals included 4.2 inches at Brenham, 3.0 inches at College Station and Pierce and 2.0 inches at both Danevang and Egypt. Houston reported only snow flurries with this event.

January 25
A widespread severe weather event moved across Southeast Texas in 2012 with six tornadoes reported. An EF 1 tornado produced damage in the Deanville area of Burleson County. Flooding was also reported from near Rosenberg to Houston.

In 1897, about 2.5 inches of slushy snow and sleet accumulated from Brenham to College Station to Madisonville in the wake of an arctic cold front.

January 26
A late month cold spell gripped Southeast Texas on this date in 1897. High temperatures at Brenham only reached 22 degrees after an overnight low of 19 degrees. Freezing rain and sleet accompanied the arctic air and Brenham reported 0.25 inches of precipitation. Danevang reported a trace of snow with a high of 33 degrees.

January 27
An EF-1 tornado touched down in Pasadena Texas in 1997 and produced about $12 million dollars in damage. The tornado was 30 yards wide and had a track length of 1.5 miles.

January 28
Arctic air filtered into Southeast Texas in 1897. Low temperatures on 28th fell into the teens with high temperatures failing to warm to 30 degrees. Brenham recorded a high temperature of 28 degrees with an overnight low of 19 degrees. The city of Houston also recorded a low temperature of 19 degrees.

In 1904, 0.2 inches of snow fell at College Station.

Winter quickly returned again on this date in 2014 as light sleet, freezing rain and rain affected all of Southeast Texas. Some locations saw a trace of snow. This event comes just four days after (January 24, 2014) Southeast Texas felt its last encounter with old man winter.

A significant ice storm began on this day in 1951. The temperature in Houston failed to rise above freezing for 123 consecutive hours.

Strong thunderstorm winds toppled trees from Porter to Montgomery to Magnolia (Montgomery County) in 2001.

A snow storm moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1949. College Station recorded 6.0 inches of snow and Houston Hobby Airport measured 3 inches of snow.

A severe thunderstorm produced golf ball size hail along State Highway 146 to the east of Goodrich in Polk County.

In 1983, an EF-2 tornado touched down east of Sealy. There were three injuries attributed to the storm. The tornado tracked north and eventually dissipated just west of Stephen F Austin State Park.

A strong snowstorm moved across Southeast Texas on January 30th and 31st back in 1949. Two day snowfall totals included 7 inches at Huntsville and 8 inches reported at Brenham. The low temperature at Brenham fell to 1 degree.

February 1
A strong cold front moved through Southeast Texas during the pre-dawn hours on this date in 2011. Damaging wind gusts uprooted trees and damaged homes.

In 2005, one person was killed and another injured after being struck by lightning while walking to their car in Houston.

Super Bowl XXXVIII was played on this date in 2004 at Reliant Stadium. Temperatures were again on the cool side with highs only in the lower 60s.

February 2
On this date in 1980, a band of light snow moved across the northeast part of Southeast Texas. 2.0 inches of snow fell at Cleveland, 1.5 inches at Livingston and Madisonville and 1.4 inches at Houston.

February 3
On this date in 2012, two tornadoes touched down in Burleson county. An EF-2 tornado damaged a FedEx shipping facility near Snook. An upper level disturbance brought very heavy rain to the northern half of Southeast Texas in 2012. 9.30 inches of rain was recorded in Ace (Liberty County) and over 6 inches of rain in College Station flooded parts of the Texas A&M University campus.

February 4
A light snowfall pushed across the western half of Southeast Texas on this date in 1923. Anderson and Brenham reported an inch of snow with 0.8 inches measured at Sealy.

In 2011, a very cold air mass filtered into Southeast Texas with low temperatures falling into the teens. Two inches of snow fell in Madisonville. The low temperature at Washington State Park was 16 degrees.

February 5
In 1986, four tornadoes roared across parts of Waller and Harris counties. An EF 3 tornado produced significant damage near DW Hooks Airport. The tornado damaged over 300 airplanes and also destroyed 37 out 40 mobile homes at a nearby mobile home park. Two persons were killed and another 49 persons suffered injuries. Damage was estimated at $80 million dollars.

February 6
In 1988, 2 to 3 inches of snow fell across the northeast part of the region. 2.8 inches of snow was reported in Cleveland, 2.0 inches at Livingston and around an inch at Coldspring.

In 1989, an ice storm moved across the region. Heavier ice totals were reported in the Clear Lake area with damage to power lines and utility poles.

February 7
In 1906, a snowstorm moved across the northern half of Southeast Texas. Snowfall totals were 6.8 inches at Brenham and 4.0 inches at College Station.

A blast of arctic air moved into Southeast Texas on this date in 1895. College Station reported a morning low temperature of 5 degrees and Houston dropped to 11 degrees.

February 8
An EF2 tornado roared through parts of Houston County in 1935. The most significant damage occured near and just west of Grapeland. There were 12 deaths attributed to the tornado and over 70 persons were injured in the storm. Crockett received 2.21 inches of rain on this date.

On this date in 1973, a band of light to moderate snow moved across Southeast Texas. 2.5 inches of snow fell at Brenham, 2.0 inches of snow fell at College Station and 1.4 inches of snow fell at Houston (8th/9th).

February 9
A significant ice storm affected areas north of Highway 105 in 1994. Ice accumulations were up to an inch thick in the Bryan College Station area.

On this date in 1973, a band of light to moderate snow moved across Southeast Texas. Snow accumulations were 1.1 inches at Houston and 1 inch at College Station.

February 10
In 1998, a squall line raced across Southeast Texas producing 80 to 100 mph wind gusts from Magnolia to the Lake Livingston Dam. 350 homes in Polk County were damaged with 18 homes completely destroyed. An EF-1 tornado touched down in Baytown and another EF-1 tornado touched down in League City.

In 1981, three tornadic thunderstorms moved across the northern half of Southeast Texas. The strongest tornado was rated an EF-2 and tracked 20 miles across parts of Walker and San Jacinto counties. This storm left one person dead and another 11 injured.

February 11
An EF-3 tornado touched down near the LaPorte Municipal Airport on this date in 1950. The tornado moved north northeast for 12 miles dissipating east of The Highlands. There was one fatality and 12 injuries attributed to the storm.

In 2010, a swath of 2 to 4 inches of snow fell from Madisonville to Crockett.

A swath of precipitation moved across Southeast Texas on this date back in 2014 with most of the area seeing light rain. In Houston county temperatures dipped below 32 degrees the night of the 11th into the 12th allowing for ice to form.

February 12
A snow storm moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1960. Livingston received 11.0 inches of snow, Cleveland received 6.0 inches of snow, Houston Hobby measured 4.4 inches of snow and the city of Houston officially measured 3.0 inches of snow.

On this date in 1997, a tornado touched down in Galveston near 37th St and Harborside Dr., damaging a gas station and sewage treatment plant.

February 13
Three straight days of single digit temperatures plagued parts of Southeast Texas in 1899. Brenham recorded a minimum temperature of 0 degrees on the 12th, 2 degrees on the 13th and 5 degrees on 14th. The mercury dropped to 10 degrees at Galveston with a thin layer of ice on parts of Galveston Bay.

A strong storm system affected the middle and upper Texas coast on this date in 1969. Winds gusted to 81 mph at Bacliff and unofficial reports of wind gusts to 100 mph at Palacios and High Island. Heavy rain and tide levels 4 to 8 feet above normal also accompanied this storm.

February 14
The greatest snowfall in Houston history occurred on this date in 1895. 20 inches of snow fell across the city of Houston on the 14th and 15th.

February 15
Galveston recorded its heaviest snowfall in city history on the 14th and 15th with 15 inches of snow. Snow remained on the ground for about six days after the storm. Further north, College Station totaled 3.5 inches of snow during this widespread winter weather event.

In 2008, a severe thunderstorm produced golf ball sized hail in Midway (Madison County).

February 16
A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the Galveston Bay region in 2008. These storms produced an EF-0 tornado near La Marque and a 64 mph wind gust at the North Jetty in Galveston Bay.

In 1998, an EF-1 tornado developed near Sugar Land and damaged parts of the First Colony Mall and a nearby indoor ice skating rink.

February 17
Snow showers moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1973. Most locations only received snow flurries but Houston Intercontinental Airport measured 1.4 inches of snow.

In 1960, an EF-2 tornado touched down near the Katy Freeway and Mason Rd. The tornado was about 100 yards wide and had a track length of about 5 miles. Three people were injured during the storm and the tornado dissipated before reaching Highway 6.

February 18
Very cold temperatures filtered into Southeast Texas in 1910. Low temperatures fell to 17 degrees at College Station and 24 degrees at Galveston.

In 2013, an EF-1 tornado touched down near Shepherd Texas, damaging a home and garage and destroying a barn.

February 19
In 1964, an EF-2 tornado touched down in Conroe. The tornado had a width of 150 yards and was on the ground for about 9 miles. There were no fatalities attributed to this tornado but seven persons were injured.

February 20
Strong thunderstorms in 1997 produced widespread flooding across most of Southeast Texas. 3.56 inches of rain fell at Crockett and 2.22 inches of rain fell at Brenham. Stronger storms producing gusty winds uprooted trees in Fort Bend and Harris counties.

February 21
A strong upper level ridge of high pressure brought unseasonably warm temperatures to Southeast Texas in 1996. College Station recorded its warmest temperature for February on this date in 1996 when the temperature warmed to 97 degrees.

February 22
Heavy rain moved across the southern half of Harris County in 1992. Parts of Houston reported 5 inches of rain. Houston Westbury recorded 3.53 inches of rain.

February 23
In 2010, an area of low pressure tracked northeast along the coast and produced a swath of snow north of I-10.  2 inches of snow fell in Brenham and 3 inches of snow fell in Crockett.

February 24
In 1965, a band of light snow moved across the central part of Southeast Texas on the 23rd and 24th. 2.0 inches of snow fell at Livingston, 1.5 inches at New Caney and around an inch at Cleveland.

A weak and short lived tornado briefly touched down near Pecan Grove on this date in 1992. There were no injuries and damage was minimal.

On this date in 1924, College Station and Anderson each received 5.0 inches of snow and Huntsville recorded 4.0 inches of snow.

In 1993, a cluster of strong storms produced an EF-0 tornado near FM 2759 in Fort Bend County and another tornado near Clear Lake.

An early season heat wave gripped Southeast Texas on this date in 1917. High temperatures during the last eight days of the month exceeded 80 degrees with highs on the 26th reaching 88 degrees at both Brenham and College Station.

Strong to severe thunderstorms produced large hail across parts of Southeast Texas in 1999. Golf ball sized hail was reported at Midway, Frelsburg, and Shepherd and at the Lake Livingston Dam.

A trace of rain fell at Houston Hobby Airport on this day in 2011. February 2011 was the second driest February on record for many locations across Southeast Texas in the driest 10 month period ever recorded for Southeast Texas.

February 29
OK, you got me. I could not find any significant weather across Southeast Texas on this date since it occurs only once every four years...or does it? In 1900, weather data for February 29th was missing at every observation site.  Climate records only showed 28 days instead of the expected 29. After further investigation, it seemed that February 29th 1900 did not exist. There are three rules that apply to leap years that end in "x00". Rule 1 - the year must be divisible by four. Rule 2 - the year must be divisible by 100. Rule 3 - the year must be divisible by 400. The year 1900 met the first two requirements but failed on the third, thus no leap year and no weather data. For what its worth, some of you reading this may still be alive in 2100, just don't expect a leap year to be waiting for you.

March 1
Heavy rain over the northern half of Harris County produced flooding near Halls Bayou and Greens Bayou. 4 to 5 inches of rain fell over parts of Harris County with Intercontinental Airport reporting 3.32 inches back in 1993.

March 2
A three day cold snap started on this day back in 1980. Low temperatures dropped to 18 degrees in Crockett, 19 degrees at College Station and 22 degrees at Houston.

March 3
A cold snap in 1943 produced low temperatures in the teens across parts of Southeast Texas. Low temperatures fell to 17 degrees at College Station and Brenham.

March 4
The third ice storm of the 2013-14 winter affected much of Southeast Texas on this date in 2014. 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice accumulated on trees and power lines northwest of an Edna to Houston to Liberty line. Some of the areas hardest hit by the ice included San Felipe, The Woodlands and Tarkington Prairie. Parts of Highway 290 were closed in Waller County and parts of Highway 59 in Liberty County were closed due to icy conditions.

In 1992, very heavy rain fell over parts of Southeast Texas. Houston received 4.56 inches of rain on the 4th. Both Brays and Buffalo Bayou were out of banks and approximately 1800 homes were flooded. There was one fatality.

March 5
Cold air returned to Southeast Texas in 2002. Low temperatures fell to 17 degrees at College Station and 19 degrees at Crockett.

March 6
An early spring heat wave began on this date in 1911. High temperatures would warm into the lower 80s on this date in 1911 and this was the first of seven consecutive days of 80 degree heat. Temperatures would eventually warm into the lower 90s on the 7th and 8th.

March 7
In 2005, large hail fell over parts of Colorado County and strong winds associated with thunderstorms produced roof damage in Pasadena. Winds were gusting over 50 mph at Houston Hobby Airport.

In 1995, a cluster of strong to severe storms produced an 85 mph wind gust at the Lake Livingston Dam. Strong winds blew down trees, utility poles and power lines from Columbus to Houston.

March 8
In 1976, an EF-3 tornado developed just east of Rosharon and moved east northeast and dissipated over League City. The tornado was about 200 yards wide and had a track length of 12 miles. 18 people were injured during the storm and damage estimates were just under $5 million dollars.

March 9
A snowstorm clipped the extreme northwest part of Southeast Texas on this date in 1915. Crockett reported 1.5 inches of snow while College Station reported a rain snow mixture.

On this day in 1994, a bow echo moving up the coast produced a measured wind gust of 102 mph at Jamaica Beach.

March 10
In 2000, several large supercells formed along a cold front. The supercells spawned two tornadoes. The strongest tornado was an EF-3 that moved across Burleson County. This tornado was on the ground for 21 miles and damaged or destroyed 20 homes. Baseball size hail also pummeled areas from Caldwell to Conroe. Damage estimates were near $3.5 million dollars.

March 11
In 1932, a cold snap began on the 9th and persisted through the 12th. Snow showers accompanied the cold air with Angleton reporting 1.3 inches of snow and trace amounts of snow were reported at Liberty and Houston on the 10th, 11th and 12th. 0.4 inches of snow fell at Houston on the 10th and this is the latest date snow has been measured at the official observation site for the city of Houston.

March 12
In 1993, The Storm of the Century moved up the east coast of the United States. In the wake of the strong storm, strong north winds brought very cold temperatures to Southeast Texas. Houston only reached 50 degrees for a high temperature on this day. In addition to the cool temperatures, tide levels in Galveston were 2 to 4 feet below normal levels.

A cluster of severe thunderstorms moved across the southern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 2007. The storms contained winds greater than 60 mph and damaged homes and businesses from Weimer to Needville. Tennis ball sized hail damaged property in Brazoria and golf ball size hail pounded Katy and Houston.

A late season cold spell moved into Southeast Texas in 1948. Huntsville recorded a high temperature of only 29 degrees with an overnight low of 19 degrees. Snow showers accompanied the arctic air with 0.3 inches of snow measured at Huntsville.

A cluster of severe storms moved across Southeast Texas in 2003 bringing golf ball sized hail to parts of Matagorda and Wharton counties.

March 14
Locally heavy rain fell over parts of coastal Southeast Texas in 2007. Three to five inches of rain produced minor flooding on Brays Bayou. 3.02 inches of rain fell at Houston Hobby Airport and 3.37 inches of rain fell at Galveston.

In 2001, strong storms moved across much of Southeast Texas. These storms produced wind damage and hail. The hail accumulated to a depth of three inches at I-45 and FM 1960. Strong winds toppled trees and knocked down power poles and street signs in Galveston, Harris, Brazoria, Liberty and Montgomery counties. Strong winds overturned mobile homes in rural Waller County.

March 15
A mid month heat wave brought high temperatures close to 90 degrees in 2008. Galveston reached 87 degrees and this is the warmest temperature ever recorded in the month of March.

In 1895, a late season snow event moved across the extreme northern part of Southeast Texas. College Station reported 3.5 inches of snow on this date.

March 16
A cluster of storms produced an EF-2 tornado just west of Bellville in Austin County on this day in 1961. There were no reported injuries and damage was minimal.

March 17
In 1957, a tornado outbreak affected a small part of Southeast Texas. Six tornadoes produced damage and injuries across Brazoria and Galveston counties. An EF-2 tornado moved across Texas City killing one person and injuring another seven.

In 2004, strong thunderstorms moved through College Station. High winds knocked down power lines and one inch diameter hail fell near the A & M campus.

March 18
In 1992, severe storms moved across the Houston metropolitan area. These storms produced two inch diameter hail near Highway 59 and Highway 6. A wind gust of 60 mph was measured at Hobby Airport.

March 19
In 1999, flash flooding developed over parts of southwest Harris County. Numerous streets were flooded in the Bellaire and Alief areas. Over six inches of rain fell near the intersection of Bellaire and Beltway 8.

Two inch diameter hail covered the ground near Caldwell back in 2005.

March 20
7.47 inches of rain fell in Houston back in 1972. The rain fell in a three hour period and parts of Buffalo and Halls bayou came out of banks. Over 1500 homes suffered damage during the storms. In addition to the heavy rain, a weak short lived tornado touched down east of Huffman. Two people were injured during the storm.

March 21
No rain fell on this date in 1916 which in and of itself is not ground breaking news. However, little to no rain fell during March of 1916. Danevang did not report any rainfall during the month. Houston recorded a Trace of rain, Brenham reported 0.06 inches of rain and Galveston recorded 0.25 inches of rain. March of 1916 was the driest March on record for Houston and Brenham.

The latest snowfall ever documented for the Houston area occurred on this date in 1968. One inch of snow was reported at Hobby Airport. The official observation site in downtown Houston did not report snow. Madisonville, Huntsville and Conroe all reported trace amounts of snow.

The city of Galveston received 8.00 inches of rain on this date back in 1973. It remains a daily and monthly rainfall record for the city.

March 24
In 1999, a small cluster of severe storms produced golf ball size hail from Crockett to Grapeland (Houston County). Strong winds knocked down trees and power lines in Pennington (Trinity County).

March 25
In 2003, a band of thunderstorms moved through the College Station area. Wind gusts between 50 and 60 mph damaged buildings in Bryan and on the Texas A&M campus. Golf ball size hail was also reported in Bryan.

In 2009, baseball sized hail fell near Cut and Shoot in Montgomery County, Quarter sized hail fell near US highway 59 and FM 1960 and golf ball sized hail fell near Cleveland. Strong winds toppled a power pole onto the roof of a convenience store in Cleveland.

March 28
In 2012, very heavy rain produced flooding in and around the Caldwell area (Burleson County). Homes and businesses suffered flood damage from the excessive rain. The city of Caldwell reported 5.95 inches in a 24 hour period. College Station recorded its wettest March on record back in 2012.

An EF3 tornado touched down just east of Garwood in Colorado County on this day in 1966. The tornado tracked southeast for about nine miles before dissipating northwest of Wharton. There were no injuries or fatalities with this storm.

In 1999, a weak and short lived tornado destroyed a barn between Angleton and Oyster Creek.

March 29
A short lived cold spell affected Southeast Texas in 1894. The low temperatures dropped to 39 degrees on this date in Galveston and Houston measured a low temperature of 35 degrees.

The high in Houston on this date in 1907 was 89 degrees. This was the last day during the month of reaching or exceeding 80 degrees. March 1907 contained 22 days of 80 degrees or warmer and March 1907 was the warmest March in recorded history.

In 2002, an EF-3 tornado damaged an apartment complex and a Supermart in La Porte Texas. The tornado produced $350,000 in damages. Baseball sized hail fell southwest of El Campo and produced another $50,000 in damages.

Severe storms moved across Harris County on this day in 1926. The damaging winds associated with these storms destroyed over 1000 oil derricks in Harris County and produced over $2 million dollars in damage (1926 dollars).

In 1987, a late season cold snap brought sub-freezing temperatures to Southeast Texas. College Station reported a morning low of 29 degrees and 26 degrees at Crockett.

On this date in 1959, a tornado touched down between El Lago and Seabrook. Damage was minimal and there were no injuries.

April 2
In 2013, a supercell tracked across Southeast Texas from near Rock Island to Wharton to Needville to Hitchcock. This storm produced quarter to golf ball sized hail for most of its track. The storm slowed and intensified as it approached Galveston County and the storm started to produce tennis ball sized hail over Santa Fe. The storm reached peak intensity near Hitchcock and this location was pummeled with 4.5 inch diameter hail.

A cluster of strong storms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2000. A downburst near Hockley destroyed two homes and damaged 20 other homes. Two inch diameter hail shattered windows and damaged cars near Hockley and golf ball sized hail pummeled Edna and Wallisville.

April 3
An EF-1 tornado roared through Chambers county on this date in 2000. Several homes were damaged near Anahuac and damages were estimated near $100,000 dollars.

April 4
Strong thunderstorms produced tornadoes near New Waverly and near Willis back in 1999. Both tornadoes were rated EF-0 and damage was minimal. The same cluster of storms that produced the tornadoes produced torrential rain in San Jacinto and Polk counties. Lake Livingston Dam reported 8.45 inches of rain in 4 hours and 6.5 inches of rain was recorded at Shepherd.

In 2012, a stalled front produced baseball to golf ball sized hail in Brazoria and Galveston counties. The community of Alvin bore the brunt of the largest hail.

April 5
In 1956, an EF-3 tornado developed just north of Bryan. The tornado moved east before dissipating over rural Brazos county. There were no injuries or fatalities but damages approached $500,000 dollars.

April 6
Two short lived tornadoes touched down in rural Wharton county on this date in 2004. There were no injuries or fatalities.

April 7
A late season snow event moved across the northern third of Southeast Texas in 2007. Parts of Madison, Walker and Houston counties reported 1 to 2 inches of snow on grassy and elevated surfaces. This is the latest snow event documented for Southeast Texas.

April 8
A cluster of severe storms produced significant damage and flooding over parts of Brazoria, Harris and Galveston counties back in 2002. Quarter to golf ball sized hail damaged 200 to 300 homes on the west end of Galveston Island and strong winds tore roofs off another 20 homes. Very heavy rain accompanied these storms and flood waters were 2 to 3 feet deep around Hobby Airport and around San Jacinto Junior College. Rainfall at Houston Hobby airport was 5.38 inches.

April 9
In 1963, a short but rather intense heat wave gripped Southeast Texas. High temperatures climbed into the lower and middle 90s. Columbus warmed to 96 degrees, Madisonville and Washington State Park warmed to 95 degrees. April 1963 remains the warmest April on record for the city of Houston.

The Houston Astrodome opened on this date in 1965. The Houston Astros battled the New York Yankees in an exhibition game watched by almost 48,000 fans including President and Mrs. Johnson. The game was played at a comfortable 72 degrees. If the game had been played outdoors, the players would have competed in 80 degree heat and high humidity.

April 10
The city of Houston recorded a morning low temperature of 31 degrees in 1973 and this is the latest date for freezing temperatures in city history.

April 11
In 1969, an EF-3 tornado touched down near Sargent. The tornado was about 65 yards wide and had a track length of just over two miles. There were no fatalities attributed to the tornado but 13 people suffered injuries as a result of the storm.

In 1997, numerous thunderstorms produced widespread wind damage across Southeast Texas. An EF-0 tornado damaged buildings southwest of Wharton and another EF-0 tornado damaged a barn near Manvel.

April 12
A heavy rain event moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1923. Liberty reported 6.20 inches of rain, Madisonville rported 4.31 inches of rain and Alvin measured 4.28 inches of rain.

April 13
In 2014, an EF-1 tornado moved through Lovelady. Three mobile homes were destroyed and one person was injured during the storm.

A heavy rain event unfolded across the northern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 1929. The city of Houston reported 6.43 inches of rain, Brenham reported 5.50 inches of rain and Conroe reported 4.65 inches of rain. Periods of rain continued intermittently for about 10 hours and most of the Harris County bayous were out of banks.

April 14
Heavy rain from thunderstorms produced more flooding over parts of Harris County in 1966. Cypress Creek and Greens Bayou came out of banks and some homes were flooded. Houston Hobby Airport reported 5.18 inches of rain on this date.

April 15
An EF-2 tornado ripped through Indian Shores Estate near Lake Houston in 1994. The damage path was about 400 yards wide and 2.5 miles in length. There was one fatality and another 20 people were injured.

April 16
In 2015, a cluster of showers and thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas. These storms produced half dollar size hail north of Huntsville, golf ball size hail in Altair and quarter size hail in Rosenberg. A wind gust of 62 mph was measured at La Ward with trees down near Morales.||||

Severe storms produced 2.75 inch diameter hail from Missouri City to Fresno in 2001. Strong winds also toppled trees and power lines in Fort Bend and Harris counties.

April 17
In 1964, an EF-2 tornado touched down near West Rd and I-45 and moved southeast before dissipating near Deer Park. The tornado was about 25 yards wide and had a track length of 22 miles. One person was killed and two others injured during the storm.

In 2009, a band of severe thunderstorms produced strong winds that toppled trees and knocked down power lines south of Brenham. The storms began to train over the same area and heavy rain and flooding developed. 8 to 12 inches rain fell over parts of Southeast Texas. 6.52 inches of rain fell at Brenham, Columbus recorded 6.30 inches and Huntsville measured 7.80 inches of rain over a two day period.

April 18
What is it about April 18th? An excessive heavy rain event developed over a large part of Southeast Texas. The heaviest rain fell over parts of Colorado, Austin, Grimes, Montgomery, Harris and Fort Bend counties. Over 6,000 structures were flooded and there were eight fatalities. Some of the heavier rainfall totals include 23.50 inches of rain in Pattison in just 14 hours, 20 inches of rain in Waller and 19.30 inches of rain near Monaville in just 10 hours. The city of Houston recorded 9.92 inches of rain which is the second highest daily total in city history. April 2016 was the wettest April ever recorded in city history.

A bow echo moved across the southern half of Southeast Texas on this date in 2015. Wind damage was reported from Edna to Angleton. The strong winds collapsed a circus tent near Angleton and wind gusts were estimated between 60 and 80 mph across much of Brazoria county.

A localized yet very heavy rain event affected portions of southern Harris and northern Galveston counties in 2009. 6.90 inches of rain was measured in one hour at the Harris County Flood Control rain gage located at Bay Area Boulevard and Clear Creek. Eight to ten inches of rain were reported across parts of Harris and Galveston counties and the NWS office in League City reported 7.88 inches of rain. Roadways became impassable due to high water and five fatalities occurred due to the flooding.

In 1979, Conroe received 15.61 inches of rain in 24 hours and 19.30 inches of rain for month. Parts of Harris County received between 10 and 16 inches of rain and most of the bayous came out of banks. The flood event produced three fatalities.

An EF-3 tornado developed just north of Lake Jackson on this date in 1966. The storm did not produce any injuries or fatalities.

April 19
A line of late afternoon and early evening thunderstorms produced large hail on this date in 2015. Baseball size hail was reported at Navasota and Tomball with ping pong ball size hail reported near Sealy.

The temperature in College Station warmed to 96 degrees on this date in 2011. It is the warmest temperature this location has recorded in April and was one of seven daily temperature records established during the month. April 2011 was the warmest April in recorded history for College Station.

An EF-3 tornado touched down on this date in 1965 near U.S. Highway 59 in Kendleton. Although the path length was less than a half mile, this tornado produced three injuries and one fatality.

A supercell produced grapefruit sized hail in Sage Glen subdivision (Houston) in 1995. An EF-0 tornado also touched down in this area and also in La Porte and Channelview as the supercell tracked east-northeast.

April 21
A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2006. Strong winds destroyed a barn in Kurten and trees were uprooted and power lines knocked down from Columbus to Spring to Dickinson. An EF-1 tornado damaged an elementary school near Pleak.

The city of Galveston received 9.22 inches of rain on this date back in 1904 and 11.04 inches for month. This is the wettest April in city history.

April 23
Caldwell received 13.04 inches of rain in just ten hours back in 1990 and 13.50 inches of rain for the day. Caldwell received 16.26 inches of rain during April of 1990.

April 24
In 2009, another cluster of strong storms produced flooding rains from Pearland to Baytown. Hobby Airport reported 4.72 inches of rain and Baytown reported 4.43 inches of rain during this event.

April 25
A cluster of storms moved across the area on this date in 2007. A weak tornado touched down near Snook, another near Oyster Creek and yet another near the Alabama-Coushatta reservation. The storms also contained a great deal of lightning and there were numerous lightning strikes that caused damage in Richmond and Porter.

In 2011, an EF-1 tornado produced damage just to the southwest of Crockett and another tornado produced damage in the Davy Crockett National Forest. A downburst in Walker county, producing winds of 80 mph, produced damage around Horseshoe Lake.

April 26
A trace of rain fell at Houston Hobby Airport on this date in 2011. Why is that significant? Because this site could only muster a trace of rain all month. April 2011 was the driest April in recorded history for the City of Houston, Houston Hobby and College Station (also a Trace) and the third driest for the City of Galveston.

A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across Walker, San Jacinto, Polk and Montgomery counties on this date in 2015. Strong winds toppled trees and knocked down power lines from Huntsville to Coldpring.

In 1998, strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the northern half of Southeast Texas producing golf ball sized hail near Willis, Brenham and Coldspring. Strong winds also damaged the roof of a Brenham department store.

A cluster of strong storms produced periods of heavy rain over western and southern Harris County and northern Fort Bend County in 2013. 5 to 7 inches of rain fell over parts of Keegans Bayou and about 100 homes were flooded. Water rescues were required near Hobby Airport. 6.05 inches of rain was recorded at Houston Hobby Airport and 4.90 inches of rain was recorded at Houston Westbury.

April 28
More heavy rain fell on this date in 2009. Another 8 to 10 inches of rain fell around Jersey Village in Harris County. Over 2100 homes were flooded with this rain event.

April 29
A cluster of severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds that toppled trees and power lines from Bryan to Winnie back in 2006. Six tornadoes accompanied the storms including an EF-2 that injured four people near Coldspring. Property damage from these storms were between $500,000 and $550,000 dollars.

The city of Angleton received 8.62 inches of rain on this date in 1988. The April monthly total was 9.09 inches.

April 30
No measurable rain fell at Houston Hobby Airport and this was the 47th consecutive day without measurable rain for this location during the drought year of 2011. Ultimately, this location went 58 consecutive days without measurable rain in the drought year of 2011. Houston Hobby only measured 0.18 inches of rain between March 15th and June 21st.

May 1
A squall line moved across Burleson and Brazos county during the late evening on this date in 2000. The storms produced strong damaging winds that toppled trees and power lines in Caldwell. Large hail and strong winds also destroyed 12,000 acres of crops.

In 2004, an EF-1 tornado did significant damage in Tomball, damaging a bank and a grocery store. Heavy rain also produced flash flooding damaging 75 homes in Livingston and closing roads due to high water in Montgomery, San Jacinto and Polk counties. Livingston reported 5.59 inches of rain during this event.

May 2
In 2000, numerous severe thunderstorms produced widespread damage across Southeast Texas. Strong winds destroyed several planes and hangars at Clover Field in Pearland and the NOAA P-3 research aircraft was damaged at Scholes Field in Galveston. Baseball sized hail in Conroe destroyed over a thousand automobiles and damaged homes and businesses. Total damages across Southeast Texas from these storms totaled $25 million dollars.

A fast moving squall line in 1993 produced a 98 mph wind gust at Scholes Field in Galveston. Two airplanes and three hangars were destroyed. Over 64 apartment complexes and businesses suffered damage and 200,000 people were without power.

May 3
A slow moving warm front triggered very heavy rain on this date in 1981. Seven to nine inches of rain fell over parts of Fort Bend, Brazoria, Harris and Montgomery counties producing widespread flooding and one fatality. Houston Hobby Airport received 9.48 inches of rain, New Caney received 8.60 inches of rain and Conroe received 6.04 inches of rain during this heavy rain event.

May 4
A localized heavy rain affected the community of Matagorda in 1918. 8.86 inches of rain fell in 24 hours between the 3rd and the 4th in 1918.

May 5
A weak short lived tornado touched down and produced minor damage in the Rice Military area of Houston back in 1969. There were no injuries or fatalities.

May 6
Widespread heavy rain affected parts of Colorado, Wharton, Matagorda and Brazoria counties in 1982. Danevang reported 7.20 inches of rain, Angleton reported 8.30 inches of rain and Wharton received 5.10 inches of rain.

May 7
An EF-1 tornado touched down near South Houston on this date in 1976. The tornado was on the ground for 13 miles and tracked across Pasadena and Deer Park before dissipating at the entrance to the ship channel. There was one injury associated with the storm and damages were estimated at $500,000 dollars.

May 8
In 2005, strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the southern half of Southeast Texas. Strong winds destroyed an airplane hangar in Wharton and damaged the airplane inside. Strong winds also damaged roofs and uprooted trees from El Campo to Wharton to Texas City. Mobile homes were damaged in Rosharon, Danbury and Liverpool. Golf ball size hail pummeled Texas City.

A weak short lived tornado touched down on the southwest side of Houston, near Willowbend back in 1991. Damages were estimated to be less than $50,000 dollars and there were no injuries or fatalities.

May 9
In 1981, several tornadoes affected Southeast Texas. The most significant tornado was an EF-2 that touched down near Montgomery. There were two injuries associated with this tornado. Another EF-2 tornado injured another person as it moved across Dickinson. All told, there were six confirmed tornadoes on this day back in 1981.

May 10
In 1999, a bow echo moved across Southeast Texas and produced 70 to 80 mph wind gusts. The winds uprooted hundreds of trees and produced significant property damage. Some of the more significant damage was in downtown Houston where office buildings had windows blown out and office equipment also blown out of the buildings. The water well system in Iowa Colony was damaged by the high winds and 49 railroad cars were blown off the tracks by the winds in Santa Fe.

A localized heavy rain event fell over central Harris county. The city of Houston recorded 5.89 inches of rain and Houston Hobby recorded 6.35 inches of rain on this date in 1968.

A weak short lived tornado touched down just east of Alvin on this date in 1976. There were no injuries attributed to this event.

May 11
An upper level ridge of high pressure centered over Texas in 1998 brought very warm temperatures and virtually no rain. A smoke plume from fires in Mexico reached Southeast Texas, reducing visibility and air quality for about seven days.

May 12
A supercell developed over northern Galveston county on this date in 2015. This feature produced a large waterspout near San Leon late in the afternoon. The supercell drifted slowly north overnight and produced over 9 inches of rain in San Leon and 10 to 12 inches of rain across Webster, Friendswood and Taylor Lake Village. A second area of heavy rain over Brazoria County produced rainfall totals between 8 to 9 inches of rain near Danbury. The observation site in Angleton reported 6.38 inches of rain on the 12th.

A nearly stationary front allowed thunderstorms to train over parts of Fort Bend and southern Harris county. Richmond received 9.32 inches of rain and Houston Westbury received 6.59 inches of rain on this date back in 2012.

May 13
In 1994, a mesoscale convective system moved across Southeast Texas and produced damage across almost every county in Southeast Texas due to strong winds, large hail or tornadoes. The most significant damage occurred west of Brenham where an EF-2 tornado damaged numerous homes in western Washington county. An EF-1 tornado also produced damage near Stagecoach (Montgomery county).

In 1892, a tornado outbreak affected Texas and at least one tornado moved through Galveston killing one person.

May 14
In 1950, an EF-1 tornado touched down just east of FM 521 near Fresno Texas. The tornado was on the ground for about a mile and produced less than $10,000 dollars in damage.

May 15
In 1997, a cluster of slow moving thunderstorms produced large hail in Pierce, Oakhurst and Crockett. An EF-0 tornado briefly touched down east of Groveton. The storms produced very heavy rain and flooding was reported in Crockett, Apple Springs, Grapeland and Corrigan. Parts of Trinity and Polk counties received 7 inches of rain in two hours.

3.07 inches of rain fell on this date in 1929 in Houston. May 1929 was very wet with rainfall across Harris County greater than 10 inches. Flooding was extensive on Cypress and Spring Creeks and on White Oak bayou.

May 16
An EF-3 tornado moved across parts of Houston County on this date in 1953. The tornado touched down southwest of Crockett and moved east-southeast crossing Highway 21. It was on the ground for 5 miles. There was one fatality and eight injuries attributed to the storm.

In 2002, a cluster of severe storms produced large hail across Southeast Texas. Baseball size hail was reported in Madisonville and Midway with quarter to half dollar size hail reported near Conroe.

May 17
On this date in 1989, a significant heavy rain event began over parts of Harris and Montgomery counties. The city of Houston established its 24 hour rainfall record with 10.89 inches of rain in 24 hours between May 17th and May 18th. 15 inches of rain fell in Spring Texas and 14 inches of rain fell over Liberty and Cleveland. Flooding was widespread and over 1200 homes sustained flood damage.

May 18
A supercell spawned four tornadoes in Liberty county in 1995. Three of the tornadoes were EF-0 and affected the communities of Dayton and Daisetta. The fourth tornado was rated an EF-1 and produced damage in downtown Liberty. Damage from these tornadoes totaled $800,000 dollars.

May 19
On this date in 2000, a cluster of storms moved through Harris and Liberty counties. These storms produced strong winds that toppled trees and power lines. These storms also produced tremendous rainfall totals and the city of Houston recorded 6.87 inches of rain and the co-op observer in Liberty reported over 18 inches of rain in 5 hours. Dangerous flash flooding affected parts of Dayton and Liberty with water levels reaching 18 feet high on the Highway 321 underpass at Dayton. There were numerous high water rescues and over 300 structures suffered water damage.

May 20
In 1983, a significant tornado outbreak occurred during the early morning hours affecting areas from Brenham to Houston. An EF1 tornado touched down near Highway 36 south of Brenham. There was a fatality and four persons injured with this tornado. Another EF2 tornado touched down southeast of Jersey Village and moved northeast toward the Greenspoint area. There was one fatality and seven injuries attributed to this storm. Another EF2 tornado touched down southeast of Tomball and moved east toward Spring. There was another fatality associated with this tornado. All told there were 14 tornadoes, four deaths and 18 injuries during this tornado outbreak.

May 21
In 1959, a waterspout moved on to land near Port Bolivar. The tornado was classified as an F3 with a track length of four miles. The tornado moved parallel to Highway 87 and did about $50,000 dollars in property damage.

May 22
In 2006,a weak and short lived tornado touched down between Hitchcock and Santa Fe. There were no injuries and damage was minimal.

May 23
On this date in 1892, a late season surge of cool weather filtered into Southeast Texas. Early morning lows were in the lower and middle 40s. Houston reported a low temperature of 45 degrees and this is latest time of the year that temperatures have ever fallen into the 40s.

On this date in 1898, Huntsville received over 5 inches of rain.

In 2017, a wet microburst descended on the town of Sealy with 80 to 100 mph winds knocking down trees and powerlines. There was significant damage to buildings across the Sealy area and 20 students were slightly injured by flying debris while attending a function at Sealy High School.

May 24
May 1936 was a rather wet month and a burst of heavy rain on the 24th produced widespread flooding across Harris County. The city of Houston recorded 3.96 inches of rain in less than 8 hours and unofficial reports indicate up to 10 inches of rain fell over western Harris County.

May 25
A squall line approached Southeast Texas during the evening hours in 2015. Some of the storms in the line produced wind damage. The line slowed as it approached Harris and Fort Bend counties. Extremely heavy rain developed during the mid evening. Parts of southwest Harris county and northeast Fort bend County received over 10 inches of rain during this event. Over 3000 homes and over 1500 automobiles were flooded during this event. Sugar Land reported 10.17 inches of rain and Houston Westbury recorded 7.36 inches of rain during this event.

Heavy rain on this date in 1997 produced significant flooding over parts of Harris County. 50 to 75 homes flooded and numerous bayous were out of banks. A water rescue was required to save the lives of two people swept away in the flood waters near White Oak Bayou. Houston Heights measured 5.07 inches of rain and the Barker Reservoir reported 4.28 inches of rain during this weather event.

May 26
In 2001, strong to severe thunderstorms produced wind damage and large hail over portions of Southeast Texas. Trees and power lines were knocked down by strong winds in Frelsburg and Columbus. Golf ball size hail damaged homes and automobiles in Cypress.

In 2016, a slow moving line of thunderstorms brought very heavy rain and isolated tornadoes to areas mainly northwest of a Columbus to Crockett line. An EF-1 tornado touched down near Bryan. The tornado was about 50 yards wide and had a track length of 1.9 miles. As the complex of storms moved south, very heavy rain developed and Brenham recorded 20.50 inches of rain in just 24 hours.

May 27
In 2014, strong thunderstorms produced a wind gust of 75 mph near LaPorte. The winds tossed debris around at a construction site injuring 15 persons.

Thunderstorms produced large hail across parts of Southeast Texas on this date in 1999. Golf ball size hail pounded Conroe and Apple Springs and quarter to half dollar size hail was reported over parts of the city of Houston.

In 1969, an EF3 tornado touched down near Anahuac. The tornado was brief and only had a track length of 1.5 miles, yet the tornado produced three fatalities and about $50,000 dollars in damage.

May 28
In 2007, periods of showers and thunderstorms brought hail and heavy rain to the southwest half of Southeast Texas. Heavy rain flooded over 50 homes in Angleton and flooding also damaged businesses in Weimer. Some of the heavier rainfall totals included 3.86 inches at Alvin, 3.36 inches at Lake Jackson and 3.03 inches at Columbus.

May 29
No rain fell at Houston, College Station or Galveston on this date in 1996 and virtually no rain fell during the month across Southeast Texas. Rainfall during May averaged less than an inch areawide with Crockett measuring only 0.03 inches for the entire month. The drought dried out the ground and allowed very warm temperatures to prevail. College Station recorded a high temperature of 100 degrees on this date in 1996 and this is the earliest date that 100 degrees has been reached at this location.

In 1978, a weak and short lived tornado touched down in Houston near the 610 East Loop and McCarty Street.

May 30
On this date in 2007, severe storms produced 2.00 to 2.25 inch diameter hail on the west side of Houston. Heavy rain also produced flash flooding near Bear Creek and numerous cars became stalled in the high water.

In 1997, strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the eastern two-thirds of Southeast Texas. Strong winds uprooted hundreds of trees and knocked down power lines from Midway to Houston. Heavy rain produced street flooding in The Woodlands and washed out a bridge near Magnolia.

An isolated and localized heavy rain event affected parts of Montgomery County in 1924. Conroe received 13.85 inches of rain.

In 1992, an EF-1 tornado moved across the northwest side of Houston. This tornado damaged a daycare center injuring two children.

The city of Houston (Bush Intercontinental Airport) recorded its earliest 100 degree day on this date in 2011. It was the first of seven 100 degree days recorded during the month.

June 3
In 1893, a tornado ripped through Wharton. One person was killed and another 9 persons were injured.

June 4
In 1871, a weak tropical storm made landfall near Galveston. The storm brought 8.55 inches of rain to the city of Galveston. 3.95 inches of rain fell in just 15 minutes and this is still a North American rainfall record.

Thunderstorms rolled through the area in 2004, producing damaging winds and nickel to golf ball sized hail. The most significant damage occurred in Colorado county between Weimer and Frelsburg with numerous trees and power lines down from gusty winds. Golf ball sized hail also produced significant damage in Pasadena.

Back in 1981, a heavy rain event produced flooding over parts of northern Harris and Liberty counties. Liberty received 6.20 inches of rain during this heavy rain episode.

An EF-3 tornado developed and touched down near Brenham on this date in 1950. The tornado was on the ground for about 24 miles as it tracked east-southeast toward Hempstead. Six injuries were attributed to this storm.

June 6
Another heavy rain event produced flooding in parts of Washington and Colorado counties in 1979. Brenham reported 6.51 inches of rain during this period of storms.

The high temperature reached 105 degrees in Houston on this date in 2011. The temperature also reached 105 degrees on the 5th. This was the earliest time in the year that the temperature reached 105 degrees in city history.

June 7
June, notorious for heavy rain events, produced another flooding event in Polk county. 10 inches of rain produced flooding in parts of Polk county. Livingston received 7.56 inches of rain during this stormy period and over 16 inches of rain during June of 1981.

June 8
In 2001, the remnants of Tropical Storm Allison looped back to the southwest and produced tremendous rainfall over a large portion of Southeast Texas. 10 to as much 20 inches of rain fell on the 8th into the 9th. Conroe reported 12.05 inches of rain on the 8th and the city of Houston reported 11.05 inches of rain and a monthly rainfall record of 19.21 inches. There were reports of nearly 20 inches of rain over the northeast part of Harris County near Greens Bayou.

June 9
The remnants of Tropical Storm Allison finally exited the region on this day in 2001. During the five days that this storm meandered around the state, rainfall totals averaged between 15 and 35 inches. More than 48,000 homes were damaged - 3600 homes completely destroyed, 70,000 automobiles flooded and 22 deaths occurred during Allison. Damages were estimated to be around $5 billion dollars. Houston Deer Park (26.03 inches), Houston Hobby (23.20 inches) and Conroe (23.04 inches) all reported more than 20 inches of rain during June 2001.

June 9th is apparently unkind to Deer Park as another heavy rain event affected this community in 1975. 12 to 15 inches of rain fell on this date producing flooding over eastern Harris county. The co-op site in Deer Park reported 15.52 inches of rain in 24 hours.

June 10
On this date in 2010, an EF-1 tornado touched down in Houston County west of Crockett. The tornado produced about $75,000 dollars in damages. The tornado was on the ground for about 3 miles as it tracked toward the western edge of Houston County Lake.

June 11
A squall line raced across Southeast Texas on the morning of the 11th in 1995. Damaging winds tore the roof of the Houston Community College and produced significant damage in Stafford. Numerous trees and power lines were knocked down in Manvel and Alvin with total storm damage approaching $2 million dollars.

June 12
A four day rainy period reached its zenith on this day in 1973. Columbus recorded 13.67 inches of rain and Liberty recorded 11.49 inches of rain during this rainy period back in 1973.

June 13
A weak and short lived tornado touched down southwest of El Campo on this date in 1973. There were no injuries and damage was light.

June 14
In 1973, the community of Coldspring in San Jacinto county recorded 13.30 inches of rain.

June 1998 was hot and dry across much of Southeast Texas. On the 14th, College Station recorded a high temperature of 107 degrees, 105 degrees at Columbus and 104 degrees at Crockett. The 107 degrees is the warmest temperature ever recorded in the month of June at College Station.

June 15
A band of very heavy rain moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1919. The city of Houston recorded 8.39 inches of rain 24 hours.

In 1976, torrential rains fell across the southern half of Harris County. Houston Westbury measured 10.12 inches of rain and Houston Hobby Airport measured 7.72 inches of rain in 24 hours. Brays Bayou was out of banks and there was significant property damage due to flooding. The game between the Astros and the Pittsburgh Pirates at the Astrodome was canceled because fans could not navigate the flood waters to reach the stadium.  Eight persons lost their lives in the flooding.

June 16
An early morning thunderstorm complex raced across Southeast Texas on this date in 2002. The winds uprooted trees and knocked down power lines from Caldwell to Houston and then to the coast. Significant damage was reported in El Campo as large trees fell on homes and automobiles. A 55 knot wind gust was measured at Morgan's Point.

June 17
In 1997, a large supercell tracked east southeast across Harris county toward the coast. A swath of damaging winds damaged homes, businesses, knocked down billboards, trees and power lines. Eight people were injured by flying glass in downtown Houston. Damage was estimated at $635,000 dollars.

The drought of 2011 created very dangerous fire weather conditions. The drought created tinder like conditions across East and Southeast Texas. The Bearing fire was sparked in Trinity County on the 17th and quickly grew to 23,000 acres making this the largest wildfire in East Texas history.

June 18
On this date in 2008, a cluster of storms moved across Fort Bend and Harris counties. These storms produced nickel to  half dollar sized hail from Cinco Ranch to Jersey Village. In addition to the hail, these storms were prolific lightning producers and several homes in Fort Bend and Harris counties suffered fire damage caused by lightning strikes.

June 19
In 2006, an upper level low drifted west and produced a nearly stationary convective complex over East and Southeast Texas. Very heavy rain fell over parts of Liberty, Harris and Chambers counties. Houston Hobby Airport recorded 5.75 inches of rain in 45 minutes and 9.29 inches of rain between midnight and noon and Liberty reported 11.79 inches of rain. Water rescues were required near the 610 South Loop and the Gulf Freeway. 3370 homes flooded in southeast Houston.

June 20
Grapefruit sized hail pummeled Egypt, Texas, on this date in 1996. The hail was blown around by 60 mph winds and over 40 percent of the homes in Egypt sustained significant damage. The storm destroyed 1000 acres of sorghum, 1000 acres of soybeans and 200 acres of corn. Damage from these storms totaled $10 million dollars.

In 1971, an EF-2 tornado touched down near Crosby Texas. 20 persons were injured during the storm despite a track length of less than a half mile.

June 21
Back in 1993, Tropical Storm Arlene made landfall along the middle Texas coast on the 20th. As the remnants of Arlene moved north, a band of heavy rain moved through Montgomery, Waller and Austin counties dumping 10 to 15 inches of rain.

June 22
A tropical storm over the Caribbean recurved to the north and intensified into a Category 1 hurricane tracking across Matagorda County near Sargent on this date in 1921. Matagorda received over 10 inches of rain and winds gusted to near 60 mph at both Houston and Galveston.

June 23
A tropical storm made landfall near Corpus Christi on this date in 1960. The storm moved slowly across the state and brought tremendous rainfall to parts of Southeast Texas. Some 48 hour rainfall totals include 12.75 inches at Palacios, 12.50 inches at Wharton and 8.51 inches at Matagorda.

June 24
An early summer heatwave brought triple digit heat to Southeast Texas back in 2009. The high temperature at Houston reached 104 degrees on this date and was the second day of seven consecutive days with temperatures at or above 100 degrees.

In 1880, a hurricane made landfall near Matagorda Texas. The storm produced 5.27 inches of rain in Galveston.

June 25
The first half of 1996 was extremely dry over all of Southeast Texas but heavy rains returned during the last week of June. On June 25th 1996, a swath of 2 to 4 inches of rain fell across the southern half of the region with Danevang recording 6.07 inches of rain and Houston Hobby Airport recording 3.30 inches of rain.

June 26
In 1902, a Category 1 hurricane packing 80 mph winds made landfall near Corpus Christi. The storm raced north but still produced a swath of 6 to 9 inches of rain across Southeast Texas. The city of Galveston recorded 6.53 inches of rain during this event.

Hurricane Bonnie formed in the central Gulf of Mexico on June 22nd and tracked west northwest and made landfall near Sea Rim State Park on this date in 1986. Bonnie produced 11 tornadoes and dumped 13 inches of rain at Ace Texas.

June 27
The first Tropical Storm Allison mercifully exited the region on this date in 1989. Much of eastern Harris, Chambers and Liberty counties received 10 inches of rain in 24 hours. Rivers and bayous were slow to recede as tides up to 7 feet were reported on the upper end of Galveston Bay. 11 persons lost their lives during the storm and damages were estimated near $500 million dollars.

In 1990, severe storms produced a tornado in Pearland Texas.

Hurricane Audrey formed in the southwest Gulf of Mexico on the 24th and made landfall on the Texas Louisiana border on June 27th 1957. Audrey intensified into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall. Although rainfall was limited, parts of Southeast Texas flooded due to storm surge.

June 28
A small but intense tropical storm made landfall near Matagorda Bay on this day in 1929. 3 persons lost their lives during the storm.

June 29
The high temperature at College Station was 105 degrees on this date in 2009. This was the last of ten consecutive days of 100 degree heat for this location. This is the longest stretch of consecutive 100 degree heat during June in the city's history.

The city of Houston recorded a high temperature of 107 degrees on this date in 2013. This was the warmest temperature ever recorded during the month of June for this location.

June 30
June 2004 was a very wet month across Southeast Texas. The 30th was the last of seven consecutive days of rain. Monthly rainfall totals were between 10 and 18 inches. On the 30th, street flooding was reported in Caldwell and Bryan. Highway 39 in Madison county was also closed with 1.5 feet water over it.

July 1
The heat wave of 1980 was in full force on this day. The high temperature reached 103 degrees at College Station and 102 degrees in Houston.

July 2
Very heavy rain moved across the southern half of Southeast Texas on July 1st and July 2nd 2010. The rain produced flooding on Buffalo Bayou in Houston and scuttled the planned fireworks show to celebrate Independence Day. The fireworks were launched prematurely (and during the day) due to the rising flood water. The city of Houston received 5.43 inches of rain on this day in 2010.

In 1987, downburst winds produced very rough conditions on Lake Livingston which capsized two boats. Three out of four occupants in one boat drowned and the two occupants of the other boat survived. The strong winds also uprooted trees in Polk, San Jacinto, Montgomery and Liberty counties.

July 3
On this date in 1985, one inch diameter hail was reported on the northwest side of Houston.

On this date in 1998, Houston recorded a high temperature of 85 degrees. It was the only day in July 1998 that failed to reach or exceed 96 degrees. All told, the month of July recorded 14 days with temperatures at or exceeding 100 degrees.

July 4
An EF-1 tornado touched down just north of Baytown on this date in 1970. Damage was relatively light but there was one injury attributed to the tornado.

A waterspout just off Stewart Beach surprised beachgoers on Independence Day in 1999. The waterspout dissipated over water and no injuries were reported.

July 5
In 1997, the community of Brazoria was pummeled with 15 minutes of dime to nickel size hail and very strong winds. Numerous homes and businesses suffered damage due to the hail and flying debris. Damage was estimated between $50,000 and $100,000.

A hurricane made landfall north of Matagorda Bay on this date in 1891. Winds were estimated to approach 100 mph near the eye.

July 6
The 1980 heat wave continued with July 6th being the first of 14 consecutive days with 100 degree heat at Houston.

July 7
In 2004, A weak and short lived tornado touched down in rural Liberty county. Damages were light and there were no injuries.

The temperature warmed to 100 degrees in Houston on this date in 1971. This would be the last time the temperature reached or exceeded 100 degrees in Houston for 1857 days (July 8th 1971 through August 6th 1976).

July 8
The city of Galveston reached 100 degrees on this date in 1939. This is the earliest 100 degree temperature for the island paradise.

July 9
A cluster of strong thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas in 1968. College Station established a daily rainfall record with 5.09 inches of rain. This is also the greatest daily rainfall total for the month of July for this location.

July 10
In 1958, a weak short lived tornado touched down between Alvin and Manvel close to Highway 6. There were no injuries with this tornado and damages were less than $50,000.

A weak tropical storm made landfall near Matagorda on this date in 1901. Crops were damaged by 40 mph winds and locally heavy rain.

July 11
College Station recorded a high temperature of 110 degrees in 1917. This is the warmest temperature ever recorded at this location during the month of July. Other locations with very warm temperatures include Brenham at 109 degrees, and Crockett and Huntsville at 105 degrees.

July 12
In 1999, an EF-1 tornado which began as a waterspout over Galveston Bay tracked across the northern portion of Texas City damaging the Chateau Jonon Apartments. The tornado also knocked down trees and utility poles.

Heavy rain moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1929. Richmond recorded 11.60 inches of rain and Danevang recorded 8.73 inches of rain.

July 13
In 1998, an outflow boundary triggered a band of showers and thunderstorms over parts of Houston, Trinity and Polk counties. High winds knocked down trees and power lines in Apple Springs, Kennard and Goodrich.

July 14
A tropical storm made landfall near Galveston Texas on this day in 1900. Rainfall for Galveston totaled  13.63 inches and the two day total was 15.97 inches.

A thunderstorm complex raced across Southeast Texas in 1998. Wind damage was widespread with the most significant damage in Colorado county. Three 18 wheelers were tipped over by strong winds on I-10 and a 9000 pound, 27 foot long culvert was blown a half mile by winds estimated to be 90 mph. A ticket booth at the Navasota raceway was destroyed and a gas station canopy in Texas City was destroyed. Measured wind gusts were 70 mph near Greenspoint and 63 mph at Port Bolivar.

July 15
In 2003, Hurricane Claudette, a category 1 storm, made landfall on this date near Port O Connor. There was significant beach erosion from High Island to Freeport. Over 1700 homes and businesses were damaged.

July 16
A weak and short lived tornado touched down a few miles northwest of Humble on this date in 1978. There were no injuries or damage associated with this tornado.

July 17
A pulse severe thunderstorm developed near Bush Intercontinental Airport on this date in 2010. Winds near the airport gusted to around 60 miles per hour.

July 18
In 1964, a weak and short lived tornado touched down near Wadsworth in Matagorda County. There were no injuries and damages were less than $10,000 dollars.

July 19
In 2009, a band of severe thunderstorms produced baseball sized hail and wind gusts near 90 mph over parts of Burleson, Brazos, Madison and Washington counties. The most significant damage occurred in Burton (Washington county).

July 20
Strong to severe thunderstorms again pummeled the northwest part of Southeast Texas on this date in 2009. Golf ball size hail was reported in Caldwell and quarter size hail was reported near Highway 6 and Harvey Road.

July 21
The city of Houston reached 101 degrees on this date in 2000 and there were 10 days during the month with temperatures at or above 100 degrees. There were only five days during the month with high temperatures cooler than 95 degrees. There were 17 heat related deaths during the month.

July 22
A tropical storm made landfall near Freeport in 1933. Periods of rain persisted for three days flooding parts of East and Southeast Texas. The city of Freeport reported 12.83 inches of rain during this event

July 23
Thunderstorms, producing damaging winds, raced across Southeast Texas in 2000. Widespread damage was reported southeast of a Columbus to Conroe to Cleveland line. An apartment building in Freeport suffered significant damage in the high winds and a gas station was severely damaged in El Campo.

In 2003, three workers installing a fence in Sugar Land took shelter from a thunderstorm under a tree. The three men were struck by lightning with one of men dying from his injuries.

July 24
In 1959, Hurricane Debra made landfall as a Category 1 storm just east of Freeport. The storm maintained hurricane force winds 100 miles inland.

July 25
In 1979, Tropical Storm Claudette made landfall near Beaumont on the 24th and slowly drifted west through the 25th. Claudette was only packing 45 mph winds but the slow motion of the storm allowed Claudette to produce some tremendous rainfall totals. An unofficial report of 42 inches of rain fell near Alvin Texas. Over a third of the residents of Alvin had to evacuate to escape rising flood waters. 25 to 40 inches of rain fell over the Clear Creek water shed and parts of Clear Creek expanded to over a mile wide. Damages from this storm totaled $750 million dollars.

July 26
A bow echo moved across Madison County on this day in 2009. Wind gusts were estimated to exceed 80 mph. Over 20 homes and another 20 businesses were damaged by strong winds. In addition, strong winds overturned several vehicles on I-45. Damages from this storm exceeded $500,000 dollars.

A weak and short lived tornado touched down on the east side of Navasota on this date in 1954. There were no injuries attributed to the storm and damage was relatively light.

July 27
A "hurricane" made landfall near the Bolivar Peninsula in 1943. The storm produced a wind gust of 132 mph at Houston and a gust to 104 mph at Texas City. 19 persons died during this storm and damage was estimated near $17 million dollars. This hurricane was unique for a couple of reasons. The first, ship reports were censored so weather information from ships was not available. There was little notice regarding the impending storm. The other note of significance is that this was the first hurricane to be investigated by flight.

July 28
In 2009, overnight lows failed to fall below 80 degrees across Southeast Texas. The overnight lows were 81 at Houston and College Station and 83 at Galveston. The warmest July overnight low temperature for Houston was 83 degrees and occurred on July 30th 2009.

July 29
The "Suprise hurricane of 1943" dumped some impressive rainfall totals. Here are some multi-day rainfall totals produced by the storm: Anahuac recorded 19.28 inches of rain for the event and 21.76 inches of rain for July 1943. Liberty reported 14.72 inches of rain during the storm, Galveston measured 13.16 inches of rain and Houston recorded 12.19 inches of rain.

In 1971, an EF-2 tornado touched down near Channelview. There were eight injuries attributed to the storm. Damages were estimated near $50,000 dollars.

July 30
College Station recorded 102 degrees on this date in 2011. Although not a record, it was the first of 26 consecutive days with 100 degree heat. College Station reached or exceeded 100 degrees 36 out of the next 37 days and 69 times for the year. For those of you doing the math at home, almost 19% of the days in 2011 reached or exceeded 100 degrees and roughly 57% of the summer was at or above 100 degrees.

In 1995, Tropical Storm Dean made landfall near San Luis Pass. Over 15 inches of rain fell over parts of Chambers County.

A heavy rain event moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1954. Cleveland recorded 10.63 inches of rain, Coldspring reported 6.90 inches of rain and Conroe recorded 5.10 inches of rain.

The high temperature at Houston on this date in 1998 was 103 degrees and this is a daily high temperature record. It was also the mid-point in an 11 day streak of consecutive 100 degree days that extended from July 26th through August 5th.

August 1
Hurricane Chantal made landfall as a Category 1 hurricane near High Island on this date back in 1989. Galveston reported a wind gust at 82 mph. A narrow band of heavy rain associated with Chantal affected parts of Harris County with Houston Hobby Airport reporting 8.58 inches of rain and Houston Westbury reporting 8.30 inches of rain. 13 deaths were attributed to Chantal and over 3000 homes were damaged or destroyed. Damage estimates were around $100 million dollars.

The temperature hit 100 degrees in Houston on this date in 2011. This was the first day of 21 consecutive days with temperatures at or exceeding 100 degrees. All told, the 100 degree threshold was reached or exceeded 32 out of the next 33 days. Houston reached or exceeded 100 degrees 46 times during the summer and early fall of 2011.

August 2
A cluster of severe storms erupted over Harris County in 2000. The storm produced quarter size hail in Aldine and damaging winds that knocked numerous trees down across the northern half of Harris County. A lightning strike at Astroworld injured 17 teenagers.

Pulse severe storms erupted over the city of Houston in 2002 producing quarter to golf ball size hail near Beltway 8 and Memorial and also produced strong winds that toppled trees, power lines and billboards. One person was killed by a falling tree.

A severe thunderstorm moved across Wharton county in 1986 producing large hail at Wharton and Boling. Four persons were injured when lightning struck a tent structure. Strong winds with the storms also knocked down trees, power lines and billboards across the county.

August 4
Strong to severe storms produced a 60 mph wind gust in Anahuac back in 2002. The storms also knocked down trees and power lines in west Houston and damaged an area restaurant.

August 5
Tropical Storm Edouard made landfall between High Island and Sabine Pass in 2008. A few homes on the Bolivar peninsula suffered flood damage but most of Southeast Texas just received some beneficial summer rain.

August 6
In 2001, thunderstorms knocked down trees, fences, billboards and power lines in Houston, Sealy and Jersey Village. Winds were estimated near 60 mph.

August 7
An isolated pulse storm in 1997 produced very heavy rain over a small area of Washington County. Widespread street flooding was reported in Brenham. Rainfall at Brenham was 5.81 inches.

The temperature warmed to 100 degrees on this date in 1976. Why is this significant? It ended a streak of 1857 days with temperatures below 100 degrees. The city of Houston did not record a high temperature at or above 100 degrees between July 8th 1971 and August 6th 1976.

August 8
In 2003, strong thunderstorms produced dime to quarter size hail from Columbus to Houston. Strong winds near Columbus also knocked down a few trees and power lines.

August 9
Record breaking heat gripped Southeast Texas on this date in 1962. Cleveland reported a high temperature of a staggering 112 degrees. Madisonville reported a record high temperature of 108 degrees and Conroe recorded a record high temperature of 106 degrees.

August 10
A heat wave gripped Southeast Texas during the first half of August 1962. Record high temperatures were established on this date at College Station (107 degrees), Houston (104 degrees) and Galveston (97 degrees). The city of Houston recorded six consecutive days (August 8th through August 13th) with record high temperatures.

August 11
In 2004, severe thunderstorms produced damaging winds that uprooted trees and knocked down power lines across Burleson, Brazos, Washington and Austin counties. The wind was strong enough to overturn a semi-tractor trailer on Highway 159 north of Bellville.

August 12
A stationary front was the focus for widespread thunderstorms on this date in 2009. The storms produced widespread wind damage. A greenhouse was destroyed in Brazos County and hundreds of trees were knocked down from College Station to Wharton to Houston. Houston Intercontinental Airport recorded a measured wind gust of 72 mph.

A mini-heatwave started on the 11th on this date in 2007. Galveston recorded three consecutive high temperature records on the 11th, 12th and 13th reaching 99 degrees on both the 12th and 13th.

August 13
A strong hurricane made landfall near Velasco Texas (Freeport) on this date in 1932. 100 mph winds were reported near East Columbia. 40 persons were killed in the hurricane and another 200 people suffered injuries. Damages were estimated near $7.5 million dollars.

August 14
In 1932, a cluster of strong thunderstorms moved between Houston and Victoria. The storms produced strong winds that damaged agriculture. Pierce reported 4.20 inches of rain, Danevang measured 3.51 inches of rain and Houston totaled 2.80 inches of rain.

August 15
An upper level low pressure system coupled with deep tropical moisture produced widespread heavy rain across the eastern half of Southeast Texas in 2002. Widespread flooding was reported in Grimes, Waller, Brazoria, Harris and Galveston counties. Alvin received 11.77 inches of rain on this date and the city of Galveston recorded 11.46 inches of rain on this day which is a daily and monthly record.

The summer of 2010 was warm but especially so at night. Overnight lows failed to fall below 80 degrees on numerous occasions. On this date in 2010, Palacios recorded an overnight low of 86 degrees, Galveston recorded a low of 84 degrees and College Station recorded a low of 80 degrees. All three values were record high minimums for the day.

August 16
A strong hurricane made landfall near Galveston in 1915. 275 people were killed during the storm. Winds approached 120 mph in Galveston and rainfall exceeded 13 inches. Damages were estimated to approach $50 million dollars. This storm was the first to strike Galveston since the construction of the seawall.

Tropical Storm Erin made landfall near Port Aransas in 2007. Although the storm was well south of the area, a band of very heavy rain moved across Harris county. Rainfall rates were four inches per hour and produced flooding on area bayous. There were three fatalities attributed to the heavy rain and associated flooding.

August 17
In 1992, the Republican National Convention was held in Houston on August 17th, 18th and 19th. Houston, offering up the best in southern hospitality, provided record low temperatures for visiting guests. The low temperatures dropped to 60 degrees on the 17th and 62 degrees on the 18th. High temperatures during the convention failed to reach 90 degrees.

In 2006, a cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved across the northern half of Southeast Texas. The strong winds knocked down trees from Lake Somerville to Onalaska. Wind gusts were around 60 mph with the stronger storms.

August 18
Hurricane Alicia made landfall on this date in 1983. Alicia was a category 3 storm and produced sustained winds between 90 and 100 mph and gusts were 127 mph. 23 tornadoes were attributed to Alicia and rainfall amounts were between 5 and 10 inches. 21 people died during the storm and damages were around $2 billion dollars.

August 19
In 2011, the temperature at College Station reached 105 degrees. It was the 21st consecutive day with 100 degree heat at this location. This area endured 26 consecutive days with 100 degree heat. College Station failed to reach 100 degrees only one time between July 30th 2011 and September 4th 2011.

August 20
In 1998, severe thunderstorms erupted in the late afternoon. The strong winds associated with the storms knocked down trees from Houston to Wharton. A mobile home was damaged near Needville and several homes were damaged in both Wharton and Hungerford. Damages from these storms approached $70,000 dollars.

August 21
Strong thunderstorms in 2004 produced golf ball size hail in New Caney and near Moss Hill.

A tropical storm crossed the Bolivar Peninsula on this date in 1942. There were no deaths associated with the storm but 15 people were injured and damages were about $1 million dollars.

August 22
Tropical Storm Charley made landfall on this date in 1998. The storm brought some much needed rain to the region and most areas picked up between 1 and 3 inches of rain. A peak wind gust of 69 mph was measured at the Colorado River Locks in Matagorda County.

August 23
In 2010, a cluster of severe thunderstorms produced strong winds that damaged a strip mall in Rosenberg and also damaged an elementary school in Richmond. Several barns were destroyed near Borden in Colorado County. Damages from these storms totaled just under $100,000 dollars.

An isolated pulse severe thunderstorm produced damaging winds near Trinity on this date in 2009. Golf ball size hail fell between Trinity and Glendale and wind gusts across the county exceeded 60 mph.

August 24
A band of severe thunderstorms produced wind damage on this date in 2011. The storms primarily affected the northern half of the region. Strong winds gusting to over 70 mph knocked down trees and power lines from Livingston to Bryan to Sealy.

In 1891, Houston recorded four consecutive days with low temperatures falling into the 50s. The temperature in Houston dropped to 54 degrees on this date in 1891 and this is still the coldest temperature ever recorded during the month of August.

August 25
In 2011, this was the only day of the month where the high temperature failed to exceed 100 degrees at Houston (95 degrees) and College Station (96 degrees).

August 26
A severe thunderstorm raced across Harris County on this date in 2001. The storm knocked down trees and power lines from The Heights to Galena Park.

August 27
In 2002, a cluster of strong storms produced damage across the eastern half of Southeast Texas. Trees were knocked own from Kennard to Liberty to Crystal Beach. The Johnson Space Center in Houston had a measured wind gust of 58 knots or around 67 mph.

August 28
A strong hurricane made landfall near Matagorda on this date in 1945. There were three deaths associated with the hurricane and winds gusted to 120 mph. This storm was a prolific rain maker. Danevang recorded 19.29 inches of rain, Anahuac recorded 15.87 inches of rain and Waller received 16.40 inches of rain.

August 29
This was the first day of 100 degree heat during the late August and early September heat wave of 2000. The temperature reached 101 degrees in Houston on this date and was the first of eight consecutive days with temperatures at or above 100 degrees.

A weak and short lived tornado touched down in Houston near Bunker Hill and I-10 on this day in 1974. The track length was less than a mile and the damage was minimal.

August 30
A hurricane made landfall near Matagorda Bay on this date in 1942. There were eight deaths attributed to the storm and a 14.7 foot storm surge in Matagorda Bay. Damages were approximately $26 million dollars.

A short lived tornado touched down near Hungerford on this date in 1955. Five persons were injured during the storm.

August 31
The heat wave of 2000 was just heating up (ok, pun intended). All three first order climate sites exceeded 100 degrees. Galveston reached 100 degrees, Houston warmed to 107 degrees and College Station reached 109 degrees. The temperature at Galveston tied the warmest ever August temperature and the 109 at College Station was the warmest August temperature ever recorded.

After a very dry second half of July and August, a weak disturbance brought some much needed rain across Southeast Texas on this date in 1981. Galveston recorded 10.86 inches of rain and Houston Hobby Airport recorded 6.70 inches of rain.

In 1999, a weak easterly wave triggered thunderstorms that evolved into a bow echo that raced across Southeast Texas. Winds gusting between 60 and 70 mph blew down trees, powerlines and damaged roofs. There was one fatality attributed to the storms with damages estimated around $1.5 million dollars.

The remnants of Tropical Storm Grace continued to plague the region on this date back in 2003. Very heavy rain fell over parts of Matagorda, Galveston, Chambers, Liberty, Polk and Walker counties. Rainfall totals include 9.50 at Matagorda, 7.52 inches at Huntsville and 4.75 inches at Freeport.

September 2
Strong thunderstorms rolled through Southeast Texas on this date in 2002. A lightning strike ignited a fire at the Exxon refinery in Baytown and another lightning induced fire damaged 18 apartments in Houston. Strong winds with thunderstorms in College Station damaged homes and overturned ten railroad cars.

September 3
In 2000, record heat scorched Southeast Texas but the intense heat also helped to spawn severe thunderstorms across Houston, Trinity and Walker counties. Strong downburst winds approaching 100 mph in Trinity County damaged homes and a marina, destroyed several mobile homes and overturned cars and boats on Lake Livingston. One person was killed and three others were injured during these storms.

September 4
In 2000, intense and record breaking heat gripped Southeast Texas. The high temperature at College Station reached 112 degrees and this is the all-time warmest temperature ever recorded for this location. The city of Houston reached 109 degrees which is tied with August 27th 2011 for its warmest temperature ever recorded. Even the city of Galveston topped 100 degrees on this date in 2000.

In 1889, College Station received 7.80 inches of rain and 14.90 inches of rain during the month of September.

Tropical Storm Delia made landfall near Freeport on this date in 1973. Five deaths were attributed to the storm and damages were estimated to be around $18 million dollars. Rainfall totals include 8.01 inches at Freeport and 7.67 inches at Houston Hobby Airport.

September 5
The heat wave of 2000 continued and the city of Galveston recorded its warmest all time temperature of 104 degrees. The city of Houston warmed to 108 degrees and College Station warmed to 111 degrees, both daily records but one degree shy of their all-time high temperatures established just one day earlier.

In 1980, Tropical Storm Danielle made landfall near Port Arthur. The storm brought elevated tides and a few tornadoes to Southeast Texas.

September 6
Tropical Storm Fay made landfall near Palacios on this in 2002. Fay produced five tornadoes and tremendous rainfall totals. Over 800 homes and businesses received damage from high winds and 500 cars were flooded. 7.48 inches of rain fell at both Bay City and Freeport during the storm.

Heavy rain in 1986 produced flooding in and around the Bryan/College Station area. Numerous roads were closed due to high water and many automobiles stalled out in high water. Officially, rainfall at College Station was 2.14 inches.

September 7
In 2011, strong winds on the backside of Tropical Storm Lee and a long term drought combined to create dangerous fire weather conditions. The Riley Road fire initiated on the 5th, was ongoing on the 7th and was not extinguished until the 15th. 19,000 acres were burned in portions of Grimes, Montgomery and Waller counties.

September 8
The Great Storm of 1900 made landfall near Galveston on this day. Over 8,000 persons perished with this storm. Winds gusted over 125 mph, tides were between 15 and 20 feet and rainfall was between 8 and 12 inches. The city of Galveston received 9.00 inches of rain during the storm.

September 9
In 1997, an area of thunderstorms generally along and east of U.S. Highway 59 produced damaging winds and large hail. Trees were uprooted and power lines were downed in Polk, Harris, Brazoria, Galveston and Chambers counties. Golf ball size hail pummeled Wharton producing significant property damage.

September 10
The city of Galveston received 8.02 inches of rain on this date in 1998 courtesy of Tropical Storm Frances. Although Frances did not officially make landfall until the 11th, the affects from the storm were felt for days ahead of time. Strong east winds produced tides 4 to 6 feet above normal. Three deaths were attributed to the storm and damages were estimated near $500 million dollars.

September 11
Hurricane Carla made landfall on this date in 1961. Carla was the last Category 4 storm to affect Southeast Texas. Wind gusts were near 175 mph and storm tides approached 22 feet. 46 deaths were attributed to the storm and damages were near $408 million dollars. Rainfall totals were also quite extreme with Danevang reporting 14.97 inches of rain and Bay City recording a storm total of 17.09 inches of rain.

September 12
In 1963, President Kennedy gave his "We choose to go to the moon" speech at Rice University. The speech was delivered outdoors under sultry conditions with the high temperature warming to 94 degrees during the speech. The overnight low temperature was only 79 degrees and remains the warmest overnight low temperature for this date.

Strong thunderstorms pushed through Southeast Texas on this date in 2003. A daily rainfall record 2.25 inches of rain was recorded at Houston. The storms also produced wind gusts in excess of 60 mph in Fort Bend county. Trees were uprooted near Needville.

September 13
Hurricane Ike, producing a 15 to 20 foot storm surge across the Bolivar Peninsula made landfall on this date in 2008. Ike made landfall as a Category 2 storm with winds between 95 and 105 mph. The storm produced damage that exceeded $19 billion dollars. Rainfall was also quite heavy with this storm with parts of Harris county receiving between 10 and 20 inches of rain.

A year earlier, Hurricane Humberto made landfall near High Island. This storm developed over the western Gulf of Mexico and transformed from a tropical depression to a Category 1 hurricane in 19 hours. High Island was rocked with 80 mph winds as the storm moved through the region.

September 14
A cluster of storms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2004. A couple of funnel clouds were reported near Burton, Waller and El Campo. There was a lightning strike at Grapeland High School during football practice. 40 persons were injured and 22 persons were kept overnight at an area hospital for observation.

September 15
Tropical Storm Felice made landfall on this date in 1970. Winds gusted over 50 mph along the coast and Galveston reported a rainfall total of 6.73 inches.

A strong hurricane made landfall near Corpus Christi in 1919. Heavy rain from this system moved across parts of Southeast Texas and Houston received 6.97 inches of rain in 24 hours. Brays Bayou flooded and boats were used for transportation in and around the Rice area.

September 16
A pulse severe thunderstorm in 1992 produced strong winds that ripped a roof off a grocery store in Vanderbilt Texas (Jackson county) and also knocked down power lines.

The city of Galveston recorded 6.48 inches of rain on this date in 1875.

September 17
A late summer heat wave gripped the northeast part of Southeast Texas on this date in 1933. The high temperature reached 100 degrees in Liberty and Anahuac reached 98 degrees.

Hurricane Cindy made landfall near High Island on this date in 1963. The storm formed near the coast and made landfall in about 24 hours. Cindy produced over 23 inches of rain over parts of East Texas. Damages were between $10-$15 million dollars.

September 18
A coastal low pressure system developed over the western Gulf of Mexico on this date in 1984 and moved slowly up the coast. Strong east winds produced elevated tides and coastal flooding in Kemah, Seabrook and Galveston. Sea Rim State Park and Galveston Island State Park were closed at times due to high water.

September 19
A heavy rain event affected parts of Fort Bend, Harris, Brazoria and Galveston counties on this date in 1979. Matagorda recorded 14.84 inches of rain, Alvin received 12.21 inches of rain and Houston Hobby Airport recorded 11.15 inches of rain during this event. There were four deaths attributed to the flooding.

September 20
A heavy rain event flooded parts of Harris County on this date in 1958. The city of Houston recorded 5.73 inches of rain during this 24 hour period.

Hurricane Beulah made landfall in 1967 over extreme northern Mexico. Beulah spawned 115 tornadoes including one tornado that moved through Palacios, killing four persons. Palacios also received 10.01 inches of rain as Beulah moved inland.

An EF-0 tornado moved across Burleson County in 1996. The tornado tracked between Somerville and Caldwell damaging a truck stop, numerous barns and uprooting trees. Damages were estimated near $500,000 dollars.

September 21
A heat wave developed across Southeast Texas in 2005. Record high temperatures were established at Galveston (96 degrees), Houston (100 degrees) and College Station (102 degrees).

September 22
Hurricane Rita was churning in the Gulf of Mexico in 2005, heading toward the northwest gulf coast. One of the largest civilian evacuations in U.S. history took place on this date. Traffic was at a standstill on area highways as millions of people tried to leave the city of Houston. Record heat didn't help the evacuation as cars overheated and stalled on area roads adding to the congestion. 55 persons lost their lives during the evacuation and the storm. Galveston (95 degrees), Houston (100 degrees) and College Station (102 degrees) all set daily temperatures records.

September 23
In 1941, a hurricane made landfall between Freeport and Matagorda. The category 1 storm produced winds near 80 mph. Four deaths were attributed to the storm. The hurricane produced 11 foot storm tides and damage estimates were near $6.5 million dollars.

September 24
In 2005, Hurricane Rita made landfall just east of Sabine Pass. The storm produced wind gusts greater than 60 mph over parts of Chambers, Galveston, Liberty, Polk and Montgomery counties. The strong winds and associated wind action on Lake Livingston caused damage to the dam. A majority of the deaths related to the storm occurred during the evacuation.

September 25
Record heat developed in the wake of Rita with record high temperatures set across Southeast Texas. Columbus reached 109 degrees and College Station reached 104 degrees on this date in 2005.

September 26
In 2000, after record heat during the first half of the month, temperatures cooled significantly with record low temperatures recorded on this date. Both Houston and College Station reported record low temperatures with many locations reporting morning lows in the mid 40s. Livingston had the coolest morning low temperature at 44 degrees.

On this date in 1896, College Station received 6.83 inches of rain. The monthly rainfall total was 9.59 inches.

Freeport received 9.90 inches of rain on this date in 1944.

The city of Houston recorded a temperature of 100 degrees on this date in 2005. It is the latest date for 100 degrees to be reached at this location.

September 28
In 1974, a weak and short lived tornado touched down near Midfield in Matagorda County. There was no damage or injuries associated with this storm.

September 29
A mini heat wave developed during the last week of September 1998. Both Galveston and Houston recorded record high temperatures on September 28th, 29th and 30th. Galveston recorded a temperature of 95 degrees on this date in 1998 and it is the warmest temperature ever recorded so late in the year.

September 30
The drought of 2010-2011 was nearing an end as rains returned in October. The 12 month period of October 1st 2010 through September 2011 was the driest on record for the city of Houston. Only 18.02 inches of rain fell during the 12 month period. College Station only recorded 14.84 inches of rain during the same time period. Brenham recorded 16.16 inches of rain during the 12 month period and this was the second driest period trailing only 1924-1925.

The start of a significant drought began on this date in 1886 and oddly enough again 2010. In 1886-87, New Ulm only received eight inches of rain between October 1st 1886 and May 31st 1887. Somerville only received 8.42 inches of rain during this same time period during the 2010-2011 drought. History does, it appears, tend to repeat itself.

On this date in 1988, a thunderstorm produced a 58 mph wind gust at Houston Intercontinental Airport.

In 2009, an EF-0 tornado moved between Cordele and Lake Texana downing trees and four power poles.

October 2
College Station reached 102 degrees on this date in 1938. It is the latest day in the year that 100 degrees has been reached at this location.

In 1913, a heavy rain event produced flooding across Southeast Texas. Parts of South Houston received over seven inches of rain. An area from Columbus to Houston received over five inches of rain over a three day period.

October 3
A hurricane approaching Southeast Texas in 1949 brought heavy rain and winds exceeding 100 mph. Storm tides approached 11 feet. Houston Hobby Airport received 6.77 inches of rain with the storm.

October 4
In 2004, an area of thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas bringing strong winds and large hail to eastern half of the region. Winds knocked down trees and fences in Onalaska, Houston and League City. Quarter to golf ball size hail pummeled Friendswood and South Houston.

In 1949, a category 2 hurricane made landfall near Freeport. The storm produced an 11 foot storm surge. Two deaths were attributed to the storm.

October 5
In 2003, strong thunderstorms spawned an EF-1 tornado in Bryan that produced significant damage to 25 homes and minor damage to another 200 homes. The strong storms also knocked down power lines and uprooted trees. One person was injured during the storms.

October 6
In 2009, low temperatures struggled to fall below 80 degrees. Houston Hobby Airport recorded a record high minimum temperature of 81 degrees. Galveston also had a morning low temperature of 81 degrees.

In 2014, thunderstorms producing strong winds uprooted trees near Westfield. A large limb fell on a car during the storm killing the driver.

October 7
In 1901, the city of Galveston received 14.10 inches of rain in 24 hours between the 7th and 8th. The monthly rainfall in Galveston was 15.00 inches.

October 8
On this date in 1949, Splendora received 11.30 inches of rain in 24 hours. The monthly rainfall at this location was 25.30 inches.

In 1949, very heavy rain fell over parts Southeast Texas. Houston Hobby Airport received 9.95 inches of rain and over eight inches fell in Alvin. Over 100 homes flooded in Houston and both Greens and Brays Bayou were out of banks.

October 9
In 2003, several tornadoes produced minor damage across Southeast Texas. The first tornado produced damage in Sugar Land near US Highway 59 and Highway 90. Other EF-0 tornadoes produced damage in Raywood, Friendswood and Wharton.

October 10
In 1919, Anahuac received 11.63 inches of rain in 24 hours ending on the 10th. The monthly rainfall at this site was 15.63 inches and the 1919 annual rainfall topped 80 inches of rain.

October 11
A waterspout over Galveston Bay produced locally rough waters and capsized a small fishing boat on this date in 1970.

In 2001, an EF-2 tornado touched down in Pasadena. There were no injuries but the tornado damaged 120 homes, three apartment complexes, two schools and several businesses. Damages were estimated near $3,750,000 dollars.

October 12
Strong to severe thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2006. Strong winds knocked down trees in Brazoria and Wharton counties and damaged a shed in Hungerford. A lightning strike in Grimes county killed a man riding a horse. Heavy rain produced flooding and another 4 people died due to drowning.

October 13
Strong thunderstorms rolled across Southeast Texas on this date in 2001. These storms knocked down power lines and power pole, uprooted trees mainly north of a College Station to Liberty line. An EF-1 tornado touched down near Bryan and damaged several businesses.

October 14
On this date in 1906, Alvin Texas received 8.01 inches of rain in 24 hours.

October 15
Hurricane Jerry made landfall on this date in 1989. No hurricane has made landfall this late in the year along the Upper Texas coast. Jerry was a category 1 storm with 85 mph winds and produced about $8 million dollars in damage.

October 16
2006 was one of the wettest Octobers on record and another heavy rain event occurred on this date. Angleton received 8.12 inches of rain in three hours. Over 115 homes were flooded in Brazoria county. Parts of southern Harris county also received heavy rain with Houston Hobby reporting 6.96 inches of rain. Four deaths were attributed to the flooding. High winds also uprooted trees in Hitchcock and damaged several mobile homes.

October 17
In 1994, a four day heavy rain event occurred between October 15th and October 18th. Over 30 inches of rain fell over parts of Montgomery, Liberty and Harris counties. "The Flood" damaged or destroyed 22,000 homes, killed 17 people and produced $900 million dollars in damage. Some individual 24 hour rainfall totals include 13.39 inches at College Station on the 16th, 14.35 inches at Conroe on the 16th and 10.21 inches at Huntsville on the 17th.

October 18
In 1998, a large rain event affected parts of Central and Southeast Texas. Some rainfall totals include 7.51 inches at Bellville and 8.50 inches at Columbus. In Harris County, 8.57 inches fell near Cypress and this caused flooding on Spring and Cypress creeks. Over 1200 homes flooded in Harris county during this rain event.

October 19
On this date in 2002, a supercell moved along I-10 from Eagle Lake to Sealy dumping quarter to golf ball size hail. Strong winds also damaged several businesses in Eagle Lake and uprooted trees and knocked down utility poles and power lines.

October 20
The low temperature at Bush Intercontinental Airport dropped to 32 degrees on this date in 1989. This is the earliest freeze on record for the city of Houston.

October 21
An early season freeze affected parts of Southeast Texas on this date in 1976. The three day cold spell brought freezing temperatures northeast of a Caldwell to Cleveland line. Low temperatures on the 21st were 29 degrees at Livingston, 31 degrees at Crockett and 32 degrees at Cleveland.

October 22
Three days of heavy rain came to an end on this date in 1984. Parts of Wharton, Matagorda and Brazoria counties received between 10 and 15 inches of rain between the 19th and 21st. The community of Angleton received 10.65 inches of rain on the 21st. Another pocket of heavy rain fell over parts of Grimes, Walker and Polk counties.

In 1957, an EF3 tornado developed north of Dayton near Texas State Highway 321. The tornado tracked east for 4.5 miles, dissipating over rural Liberty county west of the Trinity River. The storm did not produce any injuries or fatalities.

October 23
A tornado outbreak occurred on this date in 1997. Ten tornadoes were reported on this date across Southeast Texas including two EF-2 tornadoes. The first EF-2 touched down near Lake Houston and tracked into Liberty county damaging a few houses and a boat house. The second EF-2 touched down in eastern Montgomery county and moved toward Shepherd in San Jacinto county. An EF-1 tornado produced minor damage to over 100 homes and businesses near Sugar Land.

October 24
A heavy rain event affect parts of the Upper Texas Coast back in 1914. Matagorda measured 10.9 inches of rain in 24 hours.

In 2015, the remnants of Pacific Hurricane Patricia moved across the state. The storm brought some tremendous rainfall totals to the state including 8 to 12 inches of rain across Southeast Texas. Baytown recorded 9.54 inches of rain and Wharton recorded 8.72 inches of rain.

October 25
Intercontinental Airport received 9.25 inches of rain on this date in 1984. More than 200 homes flooded in parts of Harris and Fort Bend counties.

October 26
Bands of heavy rain trained across Southeast Texas on this date in 2006. Rainfall near Tomball exceeded 10 inches in 24 hours. Water rescues were required at Decker Prairie and Pinehurst in Montgomery County and numerous roads were closed due to high water in Montgomery, Waller and Liberty counties. Further south, Houston Hobby Airport received 4.60 inches of rain and over 19 inches of rain during the month.

A beautiful day for the "Fall Classic". The Astros battled the White Sox under clear skies and seasonable autumn conditions. Highs were in the upper 70s and lows were in the 40s. Despite ideal autumn conditions, the good guys took one on the chin and lost the World Series to the White Sox on this date back in 2005.

October 27
A cold front swept through the region on this day in 1970. Strong thunderstorms erupted ahead of the front and produced an EF-2 tornado in Houston. The tornado touched down near Little York and US Highway 59, was 40 yards wide and had a track length of 2 miles.

October 28
In 2002, a cluster of storms moved across the eastern half of Southeast Texas producing golf ball size hail near Stafford. Several EF-0 tornadoes produced minor damage near Crosby and Dayton. Heavy rain also produced flooding in Houston, El Campo and Rosenberg. Bush Intercontinental Airport received 8.04 inches of rain and Richmond received 6.60 inches of rain.

An EF3 tornado developed near the Anahuac National Wildlife Refuge on this date in 1974. The tornado tracked northeast for about nine miles. The tornado produced a fatality in Jefferson County.

October 29
In 2009, strong thunderstorms produced wind damage in Fort Bend county. The main threat with the storms was heavy rainfall. Flooding was reported in Fort Bend, Harris, Montgomery, San Jacinto and Polk counties. 4.18 inches of rain fell at Cleveland and 3.97 inches of rain was measured at Livingston. Water rescues were required near Cypress Creek.

October 30
In 1979, a weak and short lived tornado touched down in mid-town Houston, near Alabama and Truxillo. There no injuries with this storm.

A heavy rain event began on this date in 1941 with parts of Southeast Texas receiving over seven inches of rain between the 30th and 31st. Crockett received 7.58 inches of rain and Livingston received 6.35 inches of rain.

October 31
Halloween seems to attract bizarre weather and in 2015, another heavy rain event moved across Southeast Texas. Another 5 to 9 inches of rain fell across the region bringing monthly rainfall totals above 10 inches in many locations. Liberty reported 14.00 inches of rain during the storm and the city of Houston recorded 5.74 inches of rain during the storm.

In 2005, a cluster of strong thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas producing one inch diameter hail in Monaville and damaging winds that knocked down trees and power lines in Caldwell, College Station, Crockett, Bellville and Houston.

A slowly moving warm front triggered a band of heavy rain over parts of Austin, Waller, Colorado and Washington counties on this date in 1981. This area received between five and ten inches of rain with 7.20 inches at Columbus and 6.79 inches at Brenham.

In 1993, dry air entrenched over Southeast Texas set the stage for a large diurnal range in temperatures and allowed ideal radiational conditions for very cool overnight temperatures. The low at Houston fell to 29 degrees and this is the only time the temperatures have fallen into the 20s during the month of October.

November 1
A two day rain event in 1943 produced widespread flooding across a large portion of Southeast Texas. Houston received 10.83 inches of rain on the 1st and 2nd. Flooding was reported on Buffalo and White Oak Bayous.

November 2
A heavy rain event moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 1943. The heaviest rainfall totals were over the southern half of the region and toward Galveston Bay. Houston Hobby airport reported 5.63 inches of rain, Danevang reported 3.43 inches of rain, and Galveston measured 4.21 inches of rain.

November 3
In 2000, a stationary front served as a focus for strong thunderstorms that produced heavy rain and flooding across parts of Brazos, Burleson, Madison, Grimes, Walker and Houston counties. 30 homes were flooded in Bryan and water was 2 to 4 feet deep in Kurten. Numerous roads were closed due to high water. 8.34 inches of rain fell at Huntsville, 5.21 inches at Crockett and 4.63 inches at Midway. Damages were estimated at $500,000 dollars.

November 4
In 2002, heavy rain on the 4th and 5th produced flooding over parts of Burleson, Washington, Brazos, Walker, Grimes, Houston, Trinity, Polk and Madison counties. Most areas received between four and six inches of rain over the two day period. Huntsville received 6.57 inches of rain in 24 hours.

November 5
Widespread damaging winds associated with a band of thunderstorms produced damage in 1997 from Galveston to Crockett. Some of the more significant damage included the windows blown out at the Moody Center on the seawall in Galveston and the destruction of a garden shed at a local nursery.

November 6
A squall line moved across Southeast Texas in 2000 bringing heavy rain and high winds to most of the region. Hundreds of trees were knocked down across Grimes, Austin and Burleson counties. High winds damaged a home in Montgomery and another in New Waverly, destroyed a barn in Courtney and damaged two mobile homes in Groveton. Damage to multiple buildings occurred in Coldspring. Two weak tornadoes were reported during this event, one near Conroe and another near Shepherd.

In 1892, a severe thunderstorm rolled across Galveston Island and produced a tornado about 150 feet wide and a track length of about 8 miles. About a dozen homes and businesses were completely demolished and there was one fatality.

November 7
In 1996, a band of thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas producing widespread wind damage generally along and north of I-10. Trees and power lines were knocked down from College Station to Conroe to Coldspring. Homes were damaged in parts of Trinity and Polk counties.

November 8
On this day in 2011, an EF-1 tornado produced extensive damage in Kingwood Texas. Numerous trees were snapped or uprooted and numerous homes suffered roof damage and broken windows. An EF-0 tornado produced additional damage at an industrial plant in Texas City and overturned ten trailers.

On this date in 1955, College Station reported snow flurries. This is the earliest documented trace of snow across Southeast Texas. Areas just to the west Austin picked up 1 to 3 inches of snow with this early winter weather event.

November 9
In 1991, an early season cold snap moved into Southeast Texas. Overnight low temperatures fell into the upper 20s over much of Southeast Texas. The overnight low was 23 in Livingston, 27 at Conroe and 29 at Houston. Daytime high temperatures only warmed into the mid and upper 50s.

November 10
In 2009, a combination of raised water levels from a persistent northeast wind and high surf from swells generated by distant Hurricane Ida led to moderate coastal flooding and beach erosion along the coast of Brazoria and Galveston counties.

November 11
Back in 1911, a strong arctic cold front raced across Southeast Texas. In Crockett, the morning low on the 11th was 73 degrees but by the 12th the morning low was 30 degrees. The city of Houston recorded a low temperature of 74 degrees on the 11th and 35 degrees on the morning of the 12th.

November 12
In 2000, A strong upper level disturbance moved across southeast Texas during the afternoon and evening. Strong daytime heating combined with the disturbance to produce scattered supercell thunderstorms over the western part of southeast Texas during the afternoon. The storms then evolved into a squall line that moved toward the coast by early evening. Three EF-0 tornadoes did minor damage in Hockley, Bellville and Borden. Houston Hobby Airport recorded a wind gust of 68 mph. Damage from this storm system was estimated near $650,000 dollars.

November 13
A large heavy rain and flood event was ongoing on this date in 1998. Most of Southeast Texas received between 5 and 7 inches of rain with a few isolated totals exceeding 10 inches of rain. Approximately 300 homes were damaged by floodwaters along Cypress Creek and Clear Creek. Numerous subdivisions were cut off and dozens of area roads were closed for days due to high water. Some of the higher rainfall totals from this event include 9.50 inches of rain at Conroe, 8.32 inches at Huntsville, 8.23 inches of rain at New Caney and 8.04 inches at Tomball.

November 14
A heat wave overtook the area in 1921. Conroe recorded a high temperature of 94 degrees and Brenham recorded a high temperature of 91 degrees. College Station also recorded a high temperature of 94 degrees on this date in 1921. It remains the warmest temperature ever recorded in the month of November for this location.

November 15
An intense upper level disturbance spawned four tornadoes on this date in 1987. An EF-2 tornado produced damage near Caldwell and a second EF-2 tornado produced damage near Normangee. Four people died in the storms and another 35 people were injured.

November 16
A tornado outbreak occurred on this date in 1993. An EF-1 tornado moved across downtown Houston touching down near Smith Street and crossing I-45. There were 26 injuries associated with these storms.

November 17
On this date in 2003, another widespread severe weather event caused havoc across Southeast Texas. 24 tornadoes were reported in 15 hours. In addition to the tornadoes, widespread heavy rain produced flooding with hundreds of automobiles flooded and over 300 homes were damaged by floodwaters. By the time this event had ended there was one fatality and over 70 persons injured. Sugar Land recorded 7.14 inches of rain and Houston received 5.19 inches of rain during this severe weather episode.

November 18
In 2007, A localized heavy rain affected parts of Austin county. Flash flooding near the community of Industry swept three cars off a road. 5.56 inches of rain fell in Bellville during this rain event.

November 19
Very cold temperatures filtered into Southeast Texas on this date in 1903. Brenham recorded lows in the upper 20s and high temperatures only warmed into the upper 40s. Even the city of Galveston failed to reach 50 degrees on this day in 1903.

A heavy rain event was affecting much of Southeast Texas on this date in 1907. 5.56 inches of rain fell at College Station with a monthly rainfall total exceeding 13 inches. Danevang recorded 3.40 inches of rain on this date in 1907 with a monthly total of 14.12 inches.

November 20
A mini-cold spell was ongoing on this day in 1903. High temperatures failed to reach 50 degrees across Southeast Texas. It is still the lowest maximum temperature for this date at Houston and Galveston. The high temperature was just 47 degrees at Houston and Galveston, and 43 degrees at Brenham.

November 21
On this date in 1992, over 12 tornadoes ravaged parts of Southeast Texas. Over 2800 buildings were damaged by the storms and property damage was estimated near $100 million dollars. An EF-4 tornado produced significant damage in Channelview and this EF-4 tornado was the last EF-4 to affect Southeast Texas.

November 22
A band of moderate snow moved across the extreme northern part of Southeast Texas on this date in 1937. Crockett recorded 5.0 inches of snow, Madisonville and College Station each reported 3.0 inches of snow and Huntsville recorded an inch of snow. This is the earliest documented measurable snow event for Southeast Texas.

A three day severe weather event occurred on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of 2004. Flooding was reported in Wharton, Jackson, Colorado and Austin counties. 10.33 inches of rain fell in Wharton and 6.45 inches of rain was reported in Bellville over the three day period.

November 23
Somerville received 8.50 inches of rain on this date in 1913. This community received just over 14 inches of rain between November 23rd and December 4th. The heavy rain produced significant flooding on the Colorado and Brazos Rivers.

November 24
In 1940, a heavy rain event affected Southeast Texas during the last week of November. Livingston recorded 10.20 inches of rain on this date, Huntsville noted 7.05 inches of rain and Houston recorded 4.80 inches of rain.

This Thanksgiving was a bit of a turkey as thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas on Thanksgiving night back in 2000. Two EF-0 tornadoes touched down in Harris county. The first tornado touched down in Pasadena and the second tornado touched down near Cinco Ranch, injuring one person and damaging an Albertsons warehouse.

November 25
A localized heavy rain event produced flooding across parts of Montgomery and Walker Counties on this date in 1987. Huntsville reported 9.37 inches of rain and Conroe reported 5.10 inches of rain.

November 26
In 2001, strong to severe storms produced wind damage and flooding over parts of Southeast Texas. An EF-0 tornado produced damage in Dayton and strong thunderstorm winds produced damage in Shepherd.

A strong upper level low moved across Southeast Texas on this date in 2013. The system brought a mixture of rain, sleet and snow to the area. Huntsville, Livingston and Conroe all reported snow flurries. Sleet was reported in downtown Houston.

November 27
A late season heat wave affected Southeast Texas on this date in 1989. The high temperature warmed into the lower and middle 80s. High temperatures warmed to 82 degrees at Brenham and Somerville and 81 degrees at Danevang.

November 28
The post Thanksgiving football game between the Aggies and the Longhorns was disrupted by strong to severe thunderstorms on this date in 1997. The storms were prolific lightning producers and the game was halted for a time to protect players and fans. Rainfall amounts totaled 3.16 inches at Bellville and 1.97 inches at College Station. The Aggies prevailed over the Longhorns 27 to 16.

Significant flooding occurred on this date in 1940. After five days of rain, flooding was reported on the Brazos, Trinity and San Jacinto rivers. 16 inches of rain was reported in Hempstead and 11.59 inches of rain was reported at Conroe.

November 29
Thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas on this day in 1996. An EF-0 tornado produced minor damage and injured two people just west of Trinity Texas.

November 30
Cold air plunged into Texas during the latter half of November 1976. Low temperatures fell to 17 degrees at Crockett, 21 degrees at Washington State Park and 22 degrees at Brenham. Three inches of snow fell at Brenham on the 28th and 29th during the first surge of colder air.

In 1896, snow flurries moved through the College Station area as unseasonably cold air filtered into Southeast Texas.

A stationary front draped across Southeast Texas produced periods of heavy rain in 1914. Alvin recorded 7.00 inches of rain, Houston recorded 5.80 inches of rain, Liberty measured 4.50 inches of rain and Brenham posted a value of 4.07 inches of rain.

College Station recorded a high temperature of 89 degrees on this date in 1922. It is the warmest temperature ever recorded for this location for the month of December.

December 2
In 1953, a short lived EF-2 tornado developed in Wharton county and passed just south of Lane City. The tornado was about 200 yards wide and had a track length of just over a mile.

December 3
On this date in 1952, an EF-2 tornado developed over the extreme northern part of Lake Livingston and moved east-northeast into Trinity County. The tornado was 100 yards wide and had a track length of 13 miles. Four people were injured during this severe weather episode and damages were close to $50,000 dollars.

December 4
One of the earliest snow events over the southern half of Southeast Texas occurred on this date in 2009. 5 inches of snow fell at Lane City with 3 to 4 inch snowfall totals across parts of Jackson, Matagorda, Wharton and Fort Bend counties. The city of Houston recorded an inch of snow, This was also the first time the city of Houston recorded accumulating snow in consecutive years (2008 and 2009).

December 5
A large rain event moved across Southeast Texas in 1944. The region received between four and six inches of rain. Huntsville measured 3.67 inches of rain and Crockett tallied 3.10 inches of rain.

December 6
In 1987, an area of thunderstorms moved across mainly the northeast half of Southeast Texas. Two weak and short lived tornadoes moved across mainly the rural portions of Polk county. 3.07 inches of rain was reported at Livingston.

December 7
In 1935, torrential rain produced widespread flooding across the city of Houston. Over 20 inches of rain fell over western Harris County. Buffalo and White Oak Bayous were out of banks and over 100 city blocks in Houston were flooded. Eight people died in the floods. Buffalo Bayou rose 10 inches an hour for 24 hours and water levels rose to the second floor of many downtown office buildings. This flood event was the catalyst to create the Harris County Flood Control District. The city of Houston measured 5.42 inches of rain during this event and Houston Hobby measured a two day rainfall total of 6.26 inches.

December 8
A short lived cold spell occurred on this date back in 1927. Houston recorded a low of 25 degrees, Huntsville recorded a low of 22 degrees and Brenham reported a low of 20 degrees.

December 9
In 1992, strong thunderstorms moved across Harris county. Damaging winds associated with the stronger storms tore a roof off a day care center.

On this date in 1898, 5.0 inches of snow fell at College Station. Lows on the 10th fell to 11 degrees at College Station and 28 degrees at Galveston.

December 10
In 2008, a snow storm moved across Southeast Texas dumping 2 to 5 inches of snow from College Station to Houston. College Station reported 2 inches of snow, Houston reported 1.5 inches of snow. Parts of Chambers, Liberty and Polk counties received close to 5 inches of snow during this event.

December 11
Heavy rain fell along the coast on this date in 1935. Galveston recorded 3.19 inches of rain and Angleton recorded 3.51 inches of rain.

December 12
In 2001, an EF-1 tornado produced damage in the community of Brazoria. Several homes in the Lazy Oak Ranch subdivision sustained roof damage.

In 1989, the city of Houston recorded a trace of snow as the temperature plunged into the mid 20s.

An EF3 tornado touched down just east of Conroe on this date in 1968. The tornado tracked northeast for about six miles. Damage estimates were over $100,000 dollars but there were no injuries or fatalities.

December 13
In 1977, widespread thunderstorms moved across Southeast Texas. An EF-3 tornado with a width of 400 yards moved across eastern Harris County into western Liberty County. One person was killed and 40 others injured during the storm.

An ice storm moved across the northwest half of Southeast Texas on this day in 2000. 1/2 to 1 inch ice accumulations were common northwest of a Columbus to Trinity line. Most of the ice accumulated on trees and power lines. Power was out in Brenham for about 12 hours.

December 14
On this date in 2005, strong thunderstorms produced flooding across parts of Southeast Texas. 5.64 inches of rain was reported at Houston Intercontinental Airport and four to six inches of rain was common across parts of Harris, Liberty and Montgomery counties. An EF-0 tornado was reported near Katy and another near Huffman.

December 15
Heavy rain produced flooding across the northwest portion of Southeast Texas on this date in 1994. Four to six inches of rain produced flooding in Burleson, Brazos, Grimes and Madison counties. 6.25 inches of rain fell at Madisonville and 5.79 inches of rain fell at College Station. Flood damage was estimated to be around $9 million dollars.

December 16
In 2001, an EF-2 tornado ripped through Point Lookout West Estates near Point Blank. 15 homes were destroyed and another 15 homes suffered damage. Property damage totaled $2.5 million dollars.

December 17
Very cold temperatures prevailed across Southeast Texas on this date in 1932. Brenham recorded five consecutive mornings with temperatures in 20s. Huntsville recorded a morning low temperature of 19 degrees on the 17th while College Station, Brenham and Houston all recorded a low temperature of 20 degrees.

December 18
A prolonged severe weather event occurred on this date back in 1995. The storms produced six tornadoes across Southeast Texas and golf ball sized hail in Eagle Lake and near Anderson. A tornado damaged two dozen homes and injured two people in Porter and numerous trees were uprooted. Strong downburst winds knocked down billboards and trees across northern Harris County. Heavy rain associated with these storms produced flooding from Navasota to Galveston. Some of the heavier rainfall totals from these storms were 8.42 inches at Livingston, 7.29 inches at Anahuac and 4.68 inches at Baytown.

December 19
In 1909, Crockett received 7.0 inches of snow between the 18th and 19th. The high temperature on the 19th was only 30 degrees.

An arctic cold front moved through Southeast Texas on this date in 1924. Temperatures plunged from a high near 80 on the 18th to a low of 23 degrees on the 19th in Brenham Texas. A band of light rain and snow showers accompanied the front.

December 20
On this date in 1999, a cluster of storms moved up the coast. 1.00 to 1.25 inch diameter hail covered the ground near Sargent and near Brazoria

December 21
A snowstorm moved across Southeast Texas on this day back in 1929. 8.0 inches of snow fell at Huntsville, 6.8 inches of snow was measured in Brenham, 4.0 inches of snow was reported in Liberty and 2.3 inches of snow was measured in Houston.

December 22
Intermittent very light freezing rain and drizzle developed on this date in 1998 over mainly the northern half of Southeast Texas. Icy roads and numerous accidents were reported north of a Columbus to Conroe to Livingston line.

Cold temperatures dominated during December 1963. Low temperatures briefly dropped into the teens on this date in 1963. The average temperature for the month was 6 to 7 degrees colder than normal.

December 23
Bitter cold air and snow flurries filtered into Southeast Texas on this date in 1989. Low temperatures dipped into the single digits including a low of 0 degrees at Crockett, 2 degrees at College Station and Huntsville and 7 degrees at Houston.

In 2002, a strong upper level low coupled with a slow moving warm front set the stage for an 18 hour severe weather event. Southeast Texas endured widespread wind damage, golf ball to tennis ball sized hail, ten tornadoes and flooding rains. 3 people were injured during the storms and damage was estimated at around $1 million dollars. Brenham recorded 2.66 inches of rain and Huntsville measured 2.06 inches of rain during this severe weather event.

December 24
A snowstorm moved across the southern half of Southeast Texas on Christmas Eve in 2004. 6 to 12 inches of snow fell from Victoria to Galveston. 10 inches of snow fell at Bay City and Wharton, 6 inches in Angleton and Alvin and 3 inches in Pearland.

Bitter cold gripped the region in 1989. Crockett reported a record low temperature of zero degrees and Columbus recorded a low temperature of 4 degrees.

December 25
The snowstorm of 2004 lingered into Christmas Day. Galveston received 4.0 inches of snow as did Jamaica Beach. It was the first white Christmas in recorded history for both locations.

In 2012, a warm front moved north and produced strong to severe storms mainly north of I-10.  An EF-3 tornado destroyed an agricultural feed store and restaurant near Pennington in Trinity County.

December 26
Very cold temperatures lingered over Southeast Texas on the 25th and 26th of December back in 1983. Low temperatures fell into the single digits to teens both mornings. Crockett and Huntsville had a morning low of 7 degrees on the this date while Conroe had a low temperature of 9 degrees and Somerville recorded a low of ten degrees.

December 27
n 1971, the second half of December was unseasonably warm. Galveston (74 degrees), Houston (81 degrees) and College Station (79 degrees) all recorded high temperatures on this date in 1971. Other communities that endured very warm temperatures include 84 degrees at Columbus and 82 degrees at Danevang.

December 28
In 1925, a light precipitation event moved across Southeast Texas with a mixture of rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow. Houston recorded about a half an inch of snow with high temperatures only in the lower 30s. Snow was also reported at Brenham and Conroe.

December 29
In 2006, an EF-1 tornado tracked between North Zulch and Normangee. Three people were injured in the storm. Another EF-1 tornado, 200 yards wide with a track of 5 miles, tracked across central Brazos County. This tornado produced significant damage to several businesses and apartments.

December 30
A cluster of strong to severe thunderstorms moved through Southeast Texas on this date in 2002. Numerous homes suffered roof damage in Magnolia, New Taiton and El Campo. A weak and short lived tornado touched down near Seabrook. Damages from these storms approached $100,000 dollars.

December 31
An EF-2 tornado ripped through Pasadena on this date in 1984. The tornado was 200 yards wide and had a track length of 4 miles. 53 people were injured in the storm. 57 homes and apartments were damaged with damage estimated near $10 million dollars.

A band of light snow moved across parts of Madison, Houston, Walker, Trinity and Polk counties on New Years Eve back in 2000. Snow accumulations were between 1 and 2 inches on mainly grassy and elevated surfaces. Texas A&M was playing Mississippi State in the Independence Bowl in Shreveport on this snowy New Years Eve.
